So today I did a sync with my iPhone 6 on 9.3.1 and after it finished the Other data went to 17,777,777,337 or some ridiculous number. On the iPhone is shows 7.5GB used and 48.1 GB free

How the heck do I fix this? iTunes running on Mac 10.11.4

Is that 17TB? lol. Unplug the phone from iTunes and plug it back in again.

Yeah some ungodly number. Contacted Apple Support via twitter (which is awesome) and they had me restart my Mac in safe mode and sync the iPhone via USB. Worked. Man, it took 25 minutes to boot in safe mode.... wow.

iTunes does that to me sometimes but usually unplugging my phone and plugging it back in makes iTunes recalculate the space.

Yeah it is supposed to but it did not work for me. Good to know there's another fix.
