So I upgraded my phone today as part of the upgrade programme.

When doing so, the assistant asked me if I'd claimed on Applecare for the phone I was trading in. I haven't and she said I might be able to get a refund on the Applecare as I hadn't used it.

That sounds wrong but wondered if anyone else had been told that and managed to get a refund?

just rang apple and they said when you return the previous handset, any outstanding apple care is refunded as part of the handset return. therefore no refund is applicable when you get the new phone

Only can ask for refund if the AppleCare was paid in full. On AUP only making monthly payments.

You're referring to the upgrade programme?

Because you take out a loan with Barclays to buy the phone in full. You don't make monthly payments to Apple...

Apple Upgrade Program with Bank. When trade in existing iPhone Apple will pay off loan so can’t ask for refund if Apple is paying off loan. Yes, if you have purchased by another method and paid in full then could ask for refund in selling or trading in somewhere.

I'm talking about the iPhone Upgrade Programme

i.e. https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/iphone/iphone-upgrade-program
You pay monthly and Apple pays off th balance when traded in.

  1. Termination of the AppleCare+ Plan. You understand that you have purchased an AppleCare+ Plan with funds borrowed from Bank under an Installment Loan. If the AppleCare+ associated with your iPhone Upgrade Program is returned or terminated for any reason, including when you exercise your Upgrade Option, any refund due on your AppleCare+ will be remitted to the Bank as a payment toward any amount owed by you to Bank. If you do not cancel AppleCare+ on your own, you agree that the Bank is permitted to cancel AppleCare+ on your behalf. If the AppleCare+ refund amount is greater than the amount owed on the Installment Loan, Bank will issue you a refund in the amount of the difference to the credit card you used to enroll in the iPhone Upgrade Program.

Exactly. That's what it says but the Apple sales assistant told me it was worth asking if a refund was available, hence my question on whether anyone had.

No, I never have. Thought understood program and figured can’t get refund for something that I have not paid for I guess comes done to the Apple rep not fully understanding the policy or what was saying in regards to the AUP.
