I've had it for 4 months and now, any other laptop I see just looks huge and fat, and feels massive. Even an Eee PC seems chunky.
All I could ask for now is an ability to play Youtube properly... But even that's not worth relinquishing my precious for ^_^

Just for run I opened up 7 youtube tabs. It went fine on the Air 1.8. But I was running XP.

In a coffee shop.
Lovely to read a post by someone who is hugely happy with their computer. Glad to read you're very happy, mate and long may you continue to enjoy your MBA.

Cheers and good luck

i know exactly what you mean, i am not so much looking down on other laptops, i just have got so use to the airs size and wait that anything bigger seems like i am going back about 5 years! at the same time i detest apple for their new prices and cut student discounts, new proprietary dv connections...etc, etc (i am from the uk, which is why i hold my head in y hands at the price rises!)

I look at it like this, i don't spend much time on youtube, i only really watch videos that people send me links to and maybe once or twice a month will i hear my fans kick in to cope with the heat from the videos, i do however take my laptop around with me a lot and the size and weight actually does have a positive effect on walking around with it on my back.

Just as has been written a thousand time before: 'It is not meant for everyone'
buy the machine you want and think is suitable fore you and don't even think about what others are doing.

If you look at my post earlier in the thread then you will see that i don't particularly like apple, and i certainly don't like all the lies they told about the air at MWSF08, but i knew what the pros and cons were as i waited months before buying one.

Don't want to defend apple or say the air is the perfect machine, but i also don't want to hear people criticise it on things that some people will never use or see.

Please note this has nothing to do with the Air being too slow. My old Athlon plays Youtube vids like a champ.

This is simply because Microdobe, sorry Adobe are with the dark side.

I have to admit I am kinda becoming an Air Snob too, though I do try to hide it as much as I can. Last plane trip, I saw 2 or 3 people taking out their laptops. Each person's laptop was chunkier and clunkier than the next, I almost started laughing at how awkward they seemed.

We MBA snobs can't be bothered with plebeian sites like YouTube. It's all Atlantic and New Yorker for us. If you want to watch a film, go to the cinema like civilized people!

(Seriously though. This is a pretty major problem and I'd be upset about it if I watched much YouTube. But I don't, because, as I said, I'm a snob!)

I become a snob the first time i touch it

When Macbook Air became available i bought one for my wife and i'm still jeleious that she use it every day and not me. I ordered new Unibody MBP and still waiting to arrive but i think even this is not better than the Air and at the end i will sell it and buy Air 2.0 with SSD.

I took it with me few time for website presentation and it is so light and gorgeous !!!!!!!

I don't play games or watch youtube but i really hate the flash player under OS X. If you ask me they better not put this crappy player in the iPhone!!!

I'm so in love with MBA!

I still wish they added the glass trackpad to the air Rev B.... :'(

Youtube is not a problem anymore for the Rev B now is it? I thought it was not.

As for :apple: - Nice, I don't use youtube that much, but doesn't mean its not a big problem... Happy that was fixed as well in the process of upgrade.

All well and good but those people with clunky and bigger laptops will also probably be looking at you as pretentious...with more money than sense:p

I love how people just sweep this under the carpet. It is INCREDIBLE that people have the attitude that "well i don't watch youtube so thats fine" - thats not fine at all. Apple have basically made a half baked laptop that was so struggling to be thin and portable that they forgot that stuff actually needs to go into the enclosure.

The MBA is a shoddy product that can't do what a 10 year old laptop running windows 98 can do. I can watch youtube videos just fine on an old gateway(!) laptop from about 1999.

I had problems with my MBA 1.0, but Youtube (Flash) was not one of them. My solution? Use Flash 10.

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

Upgrade from Flash 9 to Flash 10 and you'll immediately see the difference on a Macbook Air. It uses a small fraction of the resources that Flash 9 does.

The Air is a fairly weak machine, but Flash video shouldn't be the example used to display the weakness. Flash has to be one of the worst software packages commonly used on a Mac. It is not the Macbook Air's fault that Adobe can't write software.

Physically, I can see why people might feel snobbish with their Air. But the comparative lack of power would, I think, compensate in the majority of cases!

I have become a MBA snob too, and I'm proud of it. I don't know what everyone is complaining about YouTube. Ever since the last OSX update, YouTube works fine for me.

But regardless of YouTube, the MBA is a fantastic computer. Its no powerhouse, but as a general purpose machine for my software development, it works well. I was hoping for the glass trackpad in Rev B, but no biggie.

Unlike a majority of the posters here on MR (even by folks that don't own one), I have never had a problem with mine. I watch youtube, high def content, music, and use it mainly for development.

When most folks see it, they immediately are overcome with laptop envy and try and bash it. But us happy owners know its pretty cool.

I like mine so much, I might buy a rev B one.

The only downside is that when I put it in my Waterfield bag, it looks like I'm carrying a "Man Bag"... I get lots of comments about it, but then I whip out my MBA and the envy starts! LOL

I have to agree with LinMac about the Flash 10. I never had an issue using Flash 9, but it did show a difference even in iStat.

I also use VLC for all my video. Quicktime is such a pig on this machine.

OP, since you have had few problems with the Air will you stick with Revision A or make the upgrade to B?

Even when I have no problems with a Revision A, I always get that urge to upgrade to the newest and best... which is a silly waste of money.

Agh! I just tried that and while youtube indeed works, it breaks the Washington Post Crossword puzzle. That's much more important to me, so now I'm in the middle of downgrading.

I'm following directions I saw on another forum: Uninstall Flash 10 (there's an uninstaller on Adobe's website). Then install the MacOs 10.5.5 combo updater, which includes Flash 9. I'm still only halfway through that install (on my other computer).
