So I found a used mac website (usedmac.ca) and found a powerbook g4 12" for a fair price. Was in contact with the owner and talked for about 2 weeks. Anyways after talking and emailing serveral times a day, I decided to buy. So I sent him the money and then didn't hear from him for a few days. He emailed me back saying his internet was down and that it was shipped but with no tracking number. Its been two weeks and I haven't been able to get a reply from him and the computer hasn't come. I had to sell my other laptop to get this one and now I'm at a loss as to what I should do. Any advice would be great, and I don't need posts telling me how dumb I am lol

sorry to hear this happened to you. unfortunately it's not the first and probably won't be the last scammer story we hear.

perhaps you should contact the usedmac.ca folks to try to get more information about the seller. i would also continue sending the seller e-mails inquiring about the shipment.

i don't know enough about the law with regards to these transactions to further direct you, but i would look into contacting the police in your jurisdiction as well as the seller's.

I'm actually going through a similar situation right now. I have contacted the FBI, and tomorrow will contact the PA and NY state attorney generals. I'm going to call as many branches as I can.

Print out his address and personal information (whatever you used to pay him with) as well as all your e-mail correspondence with full e-mail headers turned on. Make copies, submit them to the police, and file a report for fraud.

I'm not saying the Canadian police will lift a finger to help you (they did nothing both times my friend had his car stolen), but you never know. If you know a cop, all the better.

Edit: it is possible he's just a procrastinator and didn't send the machine promptly, or only paid for ground mail. Find out from him how he sent it, and contact the courier or post office directly in search of proof that something was sent. It's too bad you didn't ask for shipping insurance, since that would certainly leave a paper trail.

Where was this guy? If he's in LA I think I know him, I can't remember if that was his EXACT email though. But I do want to say that mailing stuff to Canada is a heartache and might as well be a slow boat to China. Customs on Canada side nightmare. Get me the info on him I will check the website now.

Eek  If it was that short a journey I would have driven to pick it up, but as someone who was scammed out of €2000 for a powermac in 2005, I can only offer my sympathies and best wishes in getting some resolution.

Use those internet detectives to track him, then pop up one day unexpectedly, possibly at a family gathering? With all civility of course..

Did you use your credit card? Some cards have insurance. In the future, try to use your American Express card for any big ticket item. They are the only credit card company that truly takes care of their customers in situations like this. Good luck.

Keep us posted. I hope they catch the scum (if he/she did in fact scam you).

Hopefully it's just procrastination...but I have a bad feeling it's not.

Did you pay through paypal? If so they can sometimes fix it.

Also, what made you trust this guy? There must've been some reason why you handed him over your $$$ trustingly?
