Sorry just needed to tell someone.

Mrs doesn't give a hoot (and still thinks its to big).

Any ideas on delivery time to the uk ? It said 3 days to ship when I ordered it !!!!!

Just waiting for the ipad uk release and i'm sorted.

I've had mine for 2 weeks now and love it. I thought the 27" was going to be big but it is not....perfect size....great screen also no problems....quite as a mouse..........loving my iMac and my MBP.........

congrats.....you will love it......

Congrats.

I've had mine since mid-November, without a minute's complaint. I was used to a G4 Duallie with the 23 inch Apple Cinema Display. so I already knew about the wonders of a big screen.

I hope you got the extra RAM from Apple. It was cheap, considering. Mine benches around 8530 in 32 bit.

..just pulled the trigger for a refurb 27 I5 Imac....will be here on or b4 the 1st...

tell her not to worry, I'm sure you'll have a chance to get a refund...

the 27 looks big in the stores but at home it looks normal. The 21 looked a little small to me, might be perfect for a student or would somehow love to have one on a stand or arm near my sofa and I could use it instead of my MBP.

Mine arrived in germany yesterday, will probably arrive on monday. I'm just setting up Plex on my Mac mini so i can re use it in the living room as HTPC.
Mrs doesn't know and it's none of her business anyway. She will see it when it's on my desk. :)

:D:D:D

I wondered how it would look at home as well. I have a 20 inch that looked tiny in the store but big at home, funny how that works!

I would think its the opposite. The 27" iMacs looks small at the store but HUGE at home.

I'm going to download plex now.

That's right. And the resolution draws you closer to the screen than with the 24" Cinema Display. I've used both and I have to say the 24" I got rid of was a far more comfortable viewing experience for me. Can't recall my eyes getting unduly tired with the 24", but the iMac 27" gives me headaches. I've used larger screens (the older Cinema Displays) and they never gave me a sense of strain either.
I'm talking of working close-up here, with text for example, not sitting back enjoying movies or games from a greater distance. Adjusting font sizes and brightness still doesn't help the iMac screen match the comfort of working with the 24" I had.

Let me know how that turns out for you... i just ordered a refurb i7 myself today and is due for delivery on the 1st as well

Will do. I have no idea how long it will take to get to the uk. Its not shipped yet, I only ordered it yesterday.

Hope yours is o.k.

I use my company EPP so got it at a great price. The discount paid for the upgrade to i7..

...i absolutely have no idea of whats goin on with these refurbs but i checked the FedEx tracking# this AM and shocked to find out that im getting the IMAC today, sure i didnt order an overnite delivery..is there an Apple warehouse somewhere in North CA? Anyone knows?...excited just the same...:D

Well I have given up going to get a refund on my i7 Im no happy about it, the screen for me was not the "ultimate display". It seems to me that this screen has taken a step back in getting good/true blacks on lcd screens.

Ive been told sony is going to use the technology in these screens in their new tvs Im looking forward to seeing if the backlight issue Ive had is present there.

I started to think it was just me that was being picky but I have seen uniform backight greying the blacks and this last one has a defined shape where the greying stops and blacks are good. so that shows that the screen is capable of showing a good black but alas not fully achieving it.

My 24" has the greying too but not as bad and its 3 years older technology no led back lighting or ips technology in it. the 27" i7 screen was not any better in a side by side test..

I am totally jealous of those that have one they are happy with lets hope the next update brings me joy as yous feel :( I am an apple fan boy and have had a thorough slagging fi my pals over this I really hope the update (whenever it comes) gives a true ultimate display and i kin again hold my head high and say see just a wee blip they fixed it :)

It might not be just the higher ppi count that is causing eye strain. I've read about some people having issues with the LED backlighting. Try turning down the brightness. One nice thing about the 27 is that the brightness controls have much more range the 24" imacs. If you use firefox, i also recommend the no squint plug in and setting it for 110% global.

if she thinks that's too big, show her the 30" Cinema display LOL :p
Now THAT'S big, and yet people use them. Mostly for heavy duty editing, it's not exactly your regular consumer display, but yeah, still pretty nice.

Enjoy your i7 OP :)

At least good. i know due to the lighting process of lcd that the contrast ratio is never as good as say plasma or crt but it can be a lot better than this iMac is...
