I decided to just go for it and see what the end result was.

I ordered the Vesa adapter kit from Apple. Expected delivery was 1-2 weeks, actual delivery was 48 hours.

I then ordered a mounting bracket from an AV store which as it turns out is more than capable of supporting the weight of the 24" model, in fact just about twice its weight.

Installation of the adapter was a breeze having read the reviews on the Apple Store. When putting the adapter on, you need to really make sure the torx screw in the middle is very tight indeed. Otherwise the side screws just won't line up.

So, was it worth it? Definitely. Its taking a bit of getting used to as its now higher on the wall than it was when it was on the stand. However, its at a much more comfortable viewing height now although it will take some getting used to. I recently put my plasma TV on the wall as well and it felt very alien at first but after a week or so I'd got used to it and I was glad I'd moved it. It does look ever so slightly squint as I'm looking at it, but the spirit level is spot on, so I think its just another side effect of having something in a different position after months and years of something else.

So if you're thinking about it, I'd definitely recommend it. It doesn't have to be an expensive change or a difficult one to do either.

Nice! Would love to see some pics too. I wall-mounted my iMac G5(s) (first a 17" model then a 20") a couple of years ago. link

Hope you didn't over-tighten the screws like I did; it was a pain to get the adapter off when I had to take my iMac in for a repair!

I got caught up at work last night so have taken one just now. Apologies for the already messy desk. Its a tilting monitor arm, so the unit isn't flush with the wall as I specifically wanted to be able to view it from different angles. However, once you've got the Vesa mounting adapter from Apple, you can basically use most mounts, so you could have it flush with the wall if you want.

I bought the Vesa mount from the Apple Store website and the Troy Innovations - LCD 7700 mount from here.

Pic.

I've not hidden the cables in the wall yet, so I've still got the power cord, a FW800 cable and a couple of USB ones visible.

Regarding the height issue, I love it. Its now at the perfect height for my desk and chair and is at a much more natural viewing height than when it was on the stand. Which has now been replaced by a pile of rubbish...

Thanks for the pic. It does look awesome, although I did puzzle whether you'd taken the stand off at first glance.

Makes me wish I had an iMac to do it with, although I have a 22inch widescreen monitor in the process of being delivered to connect up to my macbook which I'm hoping to wall-mount when it finally gets here. :)

Yeah, sorry, the area underneath the screen has become a natural dumping ground for stuff where my son can't reach it!

Nice! By the way, were you practically sitting on stage at that U2 concert? LOL! Awesome pics!

Sweet! Although run the cables through the wall it would give is a nice clean look. Also is it a straight, tilt, or swivel mount?

how do you turn it on then?

(i hope this isn't an amateur question for me to ask)...

uhmm screw the iMac, ca we please take note of the U2 pics. Awesome!

If you check out the link above for the mount, you'll get a better idea. Its basically not flush with the wall so there's easy access to get in behind. In fact, on that particular bracket you get a swing arm which extends quite a bit. I think that even with the flush mounting brackets, there's still more than enough space to get in to the cables and power button, at least if my plasma mount is anything to go by. I think for ventilation and the nature of the vesa system there's always going to be some space to get in behind screens as its never right up against the wall unless you maybe get it sunk in to the wall?

It still looks strange to people who see it for the first time, but I have to say its the most natural viewing angle and experience I've had with a computer. Very strange at first, but now I'd find it hard to go back to one on a stand.

As for the U2 gig, we were there early enough to get in to the front section of the gig and with the way they had the runway set-up to go in to the crowd we were stupidly close at times.

it was only yesterday I was wondering if you could wall mount the imac :)
great pics and info, thanks - I will maybe do mine but any chance on a couple more pics, more angled towards the side views please?
Just wondered how much it stuck out by?

many thanks :D

that mouse ruins the pic

i agree!! the setup looks amazing, loving the bluetooth keyboard, but you really, really need to get a bluetooth mouse (mighty preferably)!!

great work!! i wish it was possible to wall mount the 20"er:rolleyes:

I've tried to find a bluetooth mouse which works well but just can't seem to get one. The Mighty Mouse wheel got all bunged up and stopped working, not to mention the fact it doesn't have enough buttons (I'm used to having two on the left hand side for back/forward in browsers).

Then I found a nice Microsoft one which had no need for a dongle, but it seems to go to sleep and take ages to wake up. Not to mention losing the signal with the iMac frequently.

So if anyone can recommend a good, reliable bluetooth mouse which has programmable buttons, I'd rush out and buy it tomorrow. That's why I keep digging out that scabby old Intellimouse Explorer which I've had for years as it just works. Would love to get rid of it.

Very OT,

Why do the majority of the cars in the pictures all have the same number plate?!

Nice wall mount btw. Looks good, and seems to work. One thing, isn't it too far away from your eyes?

I thought it was obvious? the OP cars that he has owned albeit not all at the same time.

UNLESS its a crafty photoshop edit :D I doubt that though.
