I'm on three chats when suddenly I get disconnected and this message:

Error message: "The iChat Agent process has unexpectedly quit, disconnecting you from all services. Logging in again will restart it."

(No, I am not using AOL.) I have to log back in in order to chat.

I've used iChat for about 5 months, and that never happened to me once before. What should I do?

I guess some people didn't see this thread when I first posted it. Well, I'm still wondering whether or not the problem I had is serious and why/not.

Well, using my 4 year degree in studying iChat, I would have to say that it is nothing to worry about, but of course it was a by mail degree, so your guess is as good as mine.

This is the first I've seen of it. iChat and iChat AV have never told me what was going on--they just quit.

Check the console log (look in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/)

That should give some clues about what actually happened to make iTunes crash. Hopefully it was just some one-time thing and you won't have to worry about it 'cause it will never happen again :)

If it happens again, try repairing permissions and then resetting the preferences. By resetting the preferences, I mean to remove the preference file from it's folder, but not delete it. If the problem doesn't go away, you simply copy the old preference file back, if it does, you have to recreate your preferences.

Beyond that, a reinstall of the program should fix it if neither of those solutions work. None of these solutions will harm your data (Buddy List, blocked addresses, etc.)

Hope it works!
