I've Taken The Plunge, DSLR

That's right, if you couldn't tell from the title I've finally taken the plunge on a DSLR. What did I chose? The Canon EOS 350D.

So far I've taken around 100 test shots, the DSLR gives me immensive control over what I'm shooting. I've already done some comparisons to my Sony P&S and it wasn't even worth my time, the 350D blew the Sony away in image quality.

Current kit: Canon EOS 350D Body, 18-55 Kit Lens.
Coming Soon: 2GB CF Card, 50mm 1.8 Lens, 75-300 Lens.

Congrats on the new camera, you'll love it.

If I may - I'd advise against the 75-300, and in its place recommend the 70-200 f/4L. It's not much more money, and it is a much, much, much better lens.

Strongly seconded. Hell, I can't go overboard in saying how much I agree with this comment.

I took maybe a dozen shots with my 75-300 on my 20D, looked at them, and sold the lens on eBay. You'll get better results from cropping the 70-200.

I'm with the others - skip the 75-300. If you need that range on a budget, the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro will do a pretty good job for about $200. Otherwise, save up and get the 70-200 f/4L (non-IS), it's amazing.

I'll chime in as well, the 70-200f/4.0 is an amazing lens. More so than image quality for me is its ability to focus extremely fast. One of the reasons I got a DSLR was to get rid of shutter lag... why not buy a lens that doesn't spend forever* trying to focus on the subject?

*Forever is a relative term. I do a lot of action/sports photography, and a slower focus would drive me insane.
