Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on the boards who answered my questions and other users' questions that helped me out in making my decision. I had my eye on the PowerBook from the onset and I just sent in the order a few minutes ago.

Went with the 120GB HDD and 512MB RAM w/ AppleCare. I'll be ordering another 512MB stick from Crucial, a sleeve and other accessories.

Went into the Apple Store this afternoon to choose between the 15" and 17" and the 15" just seemed to fit the bill. I'll only be doing light photo editing and general tasks on it, so I think the 1GB should do just fine for me.

I was a bit hesitant putting the order in considering I never fully discussed it with my parents. They said go ahead and get whatever I wanted anyway. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Thanks again so much to everyone. Enjoyed the forums thus far. I'm sure I'll be around asking lots of questions soon.

Congrats! Please, PLEASE post pics when you receive it, specifically close-ups of the screen. Other have reported faint horizontal lines on the LCD, and no one knows for sure if it's a problem affecting all models. Hopefully yours won't be one of them.

I had a look at the new 15" PB at my local AppleCentre and could not for the life of me see any sort of horizontal lines on the screen. It just looked lovely, they only had an older 17" model there so you could see the difference, the 15" has a higher res than the 17" with a vertical resolution of 960 compared to 900 on the 17."

Now that the screens have increased in resolution Apple can stick in a smaller widescreen model with full features and a res of 1280x800.

Congrats on the purchase, please post your opening photos and pics of the system when you get it. Everybody here loves to see photos of new systems when they arrive.

I will be sure to take pics. I tend to take pics of every big purchase I make. It's pretty funny, I didn't read about any of the faint horizontal lines or the horrible WiFi reception (the one case with the user being right next to the WAP) until after I ordered. Haha. Can't wait.

I received a 15" with a horrible screen (much dimmer than the pervious model). I ordered an iMac 17" and it had screen problems to so now I'm in a spot. I may go to the Apple store near Chicago and check it out before I buy this time. I can tell you it was very fast and responsive when I used it :)

Good luck with it, man. My 15" was purchased in March and has served me very well ever since, hoping you have similar luck ;)
