I was so excited to try out these widgets until I realized that the widget doesn't actually snap to a grid but sits on top of your other icons in an ugly fashion. Did I miss something?

iPhone iWidgets question

Yes.
iWidgets allow you the freedom to place them anywhere on your screen. But, if you're the type of iPhone user that always has icons in every available nook and cranny on your screen then it just gets in the way. But if you create a flow around the widgets then it works.
Tweaks like 5 column Springboard, Gridlock 2.0 and Springtomize and themes in Winterboard can allow you to put your icons where you want them. Even iBlank can move things out of the way by providing transparent icons to push your other icons out of the way.
Once you've made space then the widgets will serve their intended purpose.
whether its in a grid or freely moved doesnt matter, whats the point of having icons on top of it. it works just as it does on androids, rooted or not.

Now, I'm looking for an easy-to-use Weather Widget. I've installed a couple of them, but they don't do anything other than show the date and time. I also tried "Widget Weather", but all I could find was Settings link for various things, but no actual widget showing the weather.
I'm a novice user when it comes to jailbreaking. I usually stick to the free, simple stuff like "Five-Column Springboard" and "Transparent Camera Bar". So, I'm trying to find a simple Weather Widget that I can add to my home springboard screen. Does such a thing exist? It seems like most of these weather widgets require you to go into the settings and edit code numbers like WOEID? I don't really know what that is, where to find it or how to use it.
Are there any weather widgets that are: Free, Easy to Use and use Location Services to tell you local weather information? Or is it all manual, user-inputted stuff?

There are a few weather widgets I've run across that use a tweak called "My Location." Can't name them right now and it's only a small amount (one or two maybe) that I've run across.
But, yes, for the most part you have to edit the settings files to put in your own personal weathercode.
The problem with that of course is that it ALWAYS display the weather at the code you use. So, if you are in some other city, it won't reflect that. But the iWidgets are supposed to be simple, little things.
Here's an alternative for you though. Actually a couple. I don't know what OS you are using but if you use iOS 6.x you can install Forecast. That's a tweak that replaces the clock on your lockscreen and gives you weather info (and icons) on your lockscreen. Combine that with DashboardX and you can place the Weather widget that's in your Notification Center on your homescreen(s). Actually, you don't need Forecast to do that, you can just use DashboardX but I like the look of Forecast better than the stock weather widget. And when I say widget I'm meaning the one in the NC, not referring to iWidgets.
Lastly, there is WeatherIcon 6 which can place a weather icon and temperature in your status bar and also modify any icon you choose on your homescreen to display live weather.
The options I gave you use Location Services.

BTW - I'm using iOS 7.0.4 JB on a iPhone 4S 64GB.
Are those things you mentioned iOS6 JB only? Having the weather stuff right on the Lockscreen actually sounds better than on my Springboard. I might give Forecast a shot. (if it's iOS7 compatible)

AFAIK, Forecast is not updated yet, nor is DashboardX. Should be a matter of time though. There's a LiveWeatherIcon tweak for iOS 7 though I think.
Here's Forecast on my lockscreen by the way. I keep all the other junk off. You might also notice WeatherIcon 6 in my statusbar.

BTW- would anyone know off-hand if there's an iOS 7.0.4 JB compatible tweak that allows you to hide icons, including stock iOS icons?
I usually use Sbsettings, since it has that option included. But it hasn't been updated for iOS 7 yet.
(I need it on my iPad 2 so I can keep my 3-year-old son from accidentally launching the Web Browser and other apps). I'm currently running iOS 5.1.1 JB on the iPad 2 and it's WAY overdue for a Jailbreak. But I don't want to mess up anything with an incompatible tweak. Thanks.

there are several, forgot the names(yea very helpful I am) but they may cause problems, there are many threads on people not being able to get the icons back/crashes. I'd just hide them in folders as someone told me.
What are you talking about? Even though you can place icons where you want in Android OS there is still a predefined grid. This prevents icons and widgets from overlapping or going beyond the preset boundaries.
iWidgets doesn't play by these rules. They kinda kist float around over your icons with no predefined space.

iWidgets look terrible. The description of the tweak doesn't even mention to get a 3rd party app to create blank icons or what have you. It won't even let you put the widget on a new blank page. I guess we can wait and see if some update happens.

The assumption is that you'll be placing the iWidget in a blank area on your homescreen. I only mentioned third party tweaks because these are what most users use to manipulate the icons on their screens. I assume you aren't being allowed to add an iWidget to a blank screen because the default for iOS is to delete blank homescreens.
It's not necessary to have them (the third party tweaks). It just makes things easier.
It does need some improvement.
- There is no way to place the widget at the top of the screen without covering icons because you cannot have a blank page without an icon. (unless you use iBlank like you suggested)
- You could place the widget in the middle of the screen but cannot place icons after it which makes it a waste of space. (unless you use blank icons to fill the row(s) the widget needs.
- You could place it at the bottom of the screen but like me I prefer my widgets at the top or middle
Good concept but needs some work to make it more effective and useful

iWidgets crashes my springboard more than anything! Most of the widgets say "wait dude" and never give me data. None I have found uses my GPS to display location weather. The most I have done is add a calendar widget that seems kinda cool, but pointless with the status bar and all.

I also use the OpenNotifier tweak for custom icons for apps that do not normally use the statusbar. Stuff like Facebook, Dropbox, etc. But those aren't in there.

That's what I was trying to indicate, but the OP thinks that iWidgets should provide this functionality (as in Android) out of the box. The OP does not like that you need to use tweaks like Gridlock, iBlank, etc to create space for the iWidget.
