I tried searching for this, but wasn't able to find anything. I'm running 10.8.2. I often save files to Dropbox. When I open these files in Numbers or Pages, both apps seem to treat these files as new files and defaults to saving to iCloud, instead of saving to the original file location. How do I prevent this, so when I open an existing file from Dropbox, it will continue to save changes to that original file?

thanks!

I'm not sure if this is where to post this but I couldn't find anywhere else so I'll give it a try... I have a similar problem. Is there a way to save a file simultaneously to two separate places? I'd like to be able to save a spreadsheet in Numbers to my hard drive and to a flash drive at the same time because with the way Mac makes you duplicate and then resave things it's not working the old way I used to do it. HELP!

not sure what you wanted to accomplish "the old way" but I'm pretty sure there isn't a way to save to 2 locations at once. In fact, I would generally recommend against having to copies of the same file in circulation, bad data practice, because you run the risk of the two files having different edits, etc.... That's why I like DropBox or iCloud; one file accessible every where you have an internet connection.

I just wish I could figure out why Pages and Numbers insist on trying to always save my files to iCloud instead of the original file location....

ny somewhere
you can, in terminal, at least change the default from iCloud
(for me, affects pages, textedit...)

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool false

or, to switch back to iCloud:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool true
