Hi.....I am going to buy the new MacBook Pro 15" with Merom whenever it releases. Can someone tell me the real benefit (if any) of getting iWork preinstalled as to buying it later on and installing it myself?

Also, i just graduated, so can i still use the Educational discount? How does Apple verify if i am a student or not?

I believe that it is cheaper to buy iWork pre-installed. You still get the DVD and the serial number incase you have to re-install later. If you order from the Apple website, you just tell them what university you attend and they give you the discount. Remember it is fraud to lie about that. I believe that you are no longer eligible as you just graduated (AKA are no longer a student).

If i remember correctly, it's ~£45 for the boxed version and ~£58 for the pre installed. - Just get the Boxed, you get a lovely box to play with!

I don't think they would charge more for the pre-installed. If anything, it would be cheaper to encourage people to buy it then instead of waiting around and eventually not buying it at all. I could be wrong, though. In the U.S., iWork pre-installed is an extra $79. The retail box costs $79. Maybe it is different overseas.

As for the education discount, I think the rule is if you still have a valid student ID. My ID expires in May of the year I graduate, so yours probably expired in May or June of this year, making it illegal for you to use it.

I dont know about you but i always like to install stuff myself, i dont know if i trust anyone else to do so. Installing it wont take more then 5 mins and you will get a nice box aswell.

I don't see where you've got a choice -- unless something just changed, iWork comes preinstalled on every new Mac, as a "demonstration" version. Just type in a serial number, and it becomes a full version.
