I was excited about the idea of iWork syncing documents via iCloud. However, it appears it only syncs iOS devices, not Macs.

This seems of very little use. Are people really going to find it useful to have documents on their iPhone and iPad in sync? I suspect most people would rather be able to keep documents in sync between an iPad and a Mac.

For instance, you could be writing or editing a Pages document on the train and, when you got home or to the office, you want it on your Mac ready for you to continue. That would be more use then having a synced document on your iPhone.

As it is, you have to download the file from iCloud to your Mac and then upload it again after working on it. Tiresome; or am I missing something?

Erm.. I'm pretty sure it does. I think you have to enable it under iCloud settings in System Prefs, although I haven't had a chance to try this myself yet. Like I said though, I'm pretty sure it does this.

Apologies if I'm wrong but I can't see any evidence. The Apple website doesn't mention anything about Macs syncing, either.

----------

From Apple Help:

iCloud keeps your documents up to date across all your iOS devices and on icloud.com. Every time you edit a Keynote, Pages, or Numbers document on your iOS device, your changes are automatically available on your other iOS devices set up with iCloud and on the web at icloud.com.

You can download your iWork for iOS documents from icloud.com to your Mac or Windows computer in iWork ‘09 (Keynote, Pages, or Numbers), Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, or Excel), or in PDF format. You can also drag and drop new documents created in iWork ʻ09 or Microsoft Office to icloud.com, making them automatically available on your iOS devices. See Get documents stored on icloud.com for a list of supported file types.

To set up iCloud on your iOS devices and computers, you need to turn on Documents & Data preferences for each device and computer. For more information, go to Set up iCloud on your devices.

The problem I think I'm having is that i purchased pages on my iPhone/ipad with the email address i use for iTunes etc and i've moved to iCloud with my MobileMe account.

Does this mean the syncing or even just transfering documents won't work with my mac? When i log into iCloud on the web it seems to think i need to buy pages.

Any thoughts?

This shouldn't matter. You can use a different Apple ID for store purchases, so long as you use the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings on each device you want to sync to iCloud.

No, the doc syncing should be based on your iCloud ID, not your store ID.

When I updated Pages/Numbers yesterday on my iPhone/iPad, there was a new welcome screen and then it asked if I wanted to sync my docs with iCloud. Did you get that screen?
