Does anyone know where I can get ahold of a 50 pin JAE gender changer for the Mini's DVD connector? Or better yet, a JAE50 to 40-pin or 44-pin PATA (IDE) adapter? Here's what the Mini's connector looks like. I'm planning a repack of one of my Mini's into a Micro ATX case and would like to put a couple of 3.5" drives and desktop DVD burner in it.

They are very hard to find.

There are several threads on 123macmini.com

I have one on order from some guy on eBay. The adapter board also comes with a model of genuine IBM Ultrabay 2000. I have a post: http://www.123macmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=122452 .

Serpent over there still has some - look at this post: http://www.123macmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18464

Once you have the JAE to mini IDE, you still need a mini IDE to big IDE converter. The only place I have ever seen one is in Australia - see http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/mini/ . Serpent just makes his own and may still have some for sale.

Actually, those 44 to 40 pin reversed connectors are still available from Adam in Australia.....email: aeberbach@mac.com and got mine a few weeks ago. US$ 25 now through Paypal.
I also tracked down one of the JAE50 to 44 pin connectors via eBay eventually. Took some searching though. Looks like the seller 2008-great-wall has the goods as well as seller it-glasses in their Ultrabay 2000 caddy (probably!). Serpent on 123MacMini.com says he has some too, but he didn't get back to me quickly so I went the eBay route.

Do you know if the Mini will boot from a SATA drive if it's on a port multiplier? Presumably, that's what he's using?
SATA? There is no talk of SATA in this thread. The JAE connector is PATA.

And no the mini won't boot on a SATA port multiplier (unless it looks like one big disk) - at least so far.
