Does anyone know a work arround for running Jag on an older iMac with an ATI Rage Pro 8mb Graphics card? I can run it fine and it is not painfull slow but it cannot run any Open GL games. It seems that the graphics card is not reocognized in OSX (although it is listed as a supported computer. This is my daughters machine and I think OSX is a much nicer interface for her (not to mention OS9 crashes just about every time she uses it). I know this is an old issue but I thought maybee someone out there has found a work arround by now.

OS X will be slow as hell on 333 MHz iMac.. how much ram you got in it?
As for games, which ones are you trying to make run on it?

The only games that are run on it are Power Puff Girls and Jump Start Educational games. Some of those games will run on X but when I try anything open GL like Pod Racer or Cro-Mag Rally it comes up with a Open GL error. I have 384megs or ram in it.

My wife has a 366 Mhz iBook with Jag installed. She is satisfied with its performance for daily work activities, and is much happier with its stability than she was with OS 9. I think it would be a little slow for games. Some have worked okay, others (e.g., OttoMatic) have been ridiculously slow.

And I agree that game availability would be an issue.

there are lots of games available for OS X..
and i think that for average user 700 MHz processor with geforce or radeon card is minimum that makes usable.

anything below that is just very annoying

Should be useable

My sister has a Lime 333 MHz iMac. She mostly uses it for e-mail, internet, and iPhoto. iPhoto can really bog the system down when launching. She has around 200 pictures in her library and it takes a while to load but runs fine after a minute or two.

I think the maximum amount of video RAM is 6 MB. Two MB's are built in and there is an expansion slot for more VRAM.

Anyway, your daughter should be able to run her games okay. Can't say that I've used those programs but I think they'll run okay.

I had a 333 MHz Blueberry iMac. It ran jaguar fairly well, but I had maxed the ram out at 512 MB. Make sure you do the same. The more Ram the better.

Good Luck.
