Obviously, the new 2.0 firmware apps are in their early stages so maybe thing will be different 6 months from now. But right now, it seems like for some specific categories, apps written for jailbroken iPhones offers more variety and depth than 2.0 apps. I don't have a jailbroken iPhone myself but I met someone a couple weeks ago who showed me his. He had a program on their that let you record video and then another app that uploaded it to YouTube (unfortunately, I can't remember the names of either apps). Stuff like that doesn't exist on 2.0 and who knows when it will, if ever. I don't plan to get a 3g iPhone because it doesn't seem enough of an advance for me. However, I am considering upgrading my firmware to 2.0 but wonder if I shouldn't jailbreak my iPhone instead.

It doesn't really matter as in the next few days you should be able to jailbreak 2.0 anyhow. Granted most apps will probably have to be re-written from what I understand but still it will be cool. The app store apps have more polish than installer apps, and have more access to certain elements of the phone that the installer apps didn't and less access to others.

Super Monkey Ball, Enigmo, Itunes remote and exchange support are enough for me to be happy with 2.0 right now.

But I do miss ScummVM, Vnsea, and Customize on installer.

Sighh.. Installer and App Store.. sounds like an iPhone users dream come true!

hey guys...new to the forum...glad to be part of it...

you guys are discussing the exact question i had

i have a jailbroken/hacked iphone.....i really feel that i can live without the 3g, my iphone is practically new.......but i am also a med student...and some apps such as epocrates would be most helpful......so i guess my question is, if and when we can jailbrake firmware 2.0 well we have the abilitity to access the app store to get apple apps? or can anyone verify if this is a rumor, or for those more tech savy then I, is this even possible to do?
