hi,
I'm new to the iphone, I have a 3gs at 3.1.2. I have previously owned an ATT tilt with a custom rom so i have some familarity with non standard phone roms.
My question is around jailbreaking 3.1.2. I specifically want to do it to use slingplayer over the wireless network. I have read that if the phone looses service and you need to reboot it that it needs to be cabled to a PC to recover it.

So my question is more specific, if I jailbreak 3.1.2 and it requires a reboot in the field, what happens when I reboot it without a connected PC?..does it revert back to the nonjailbroken state(i.e. everything works except my jailbreak required apps) or is it a brick until I get to a PC?

When I got the phone last week, it did loose service once and needed a reboot to recover..been rock solid ever since. I upgraded to 3.1.2 to get support for the augmented reality apps at the risk of giving up slingplayer over wireless.

thanks

It depends on how long ago you got your 3GS. Ive forgotten the exact way to tell (dhlizard knows) but if you got it 4/5 weeks ago you should be fine. And yes, ive heard if you rebooth without tethering it (running blackrain) you lose the JB.

Wait for other confirmation though.

thanks,

I'm trying to gage the risk/impact of jail breaking, installing that app that fools slingplayer into thinking the wireless is wifi(forgot what its called off hand). If all I loose is the jailbreak and the phone reverts to normal in the field its worth it. If I have to get to my pc to recover...errr maybe not, I need the phone to work reliably, I can risk my slingplayer:) in the field.

3g unrestrictor...thanks!

re the link, thanks!

after reading the link, so to confirm, with a 3.1.2 jailbreak, the phone is a brick on a "field" reboot, no recovery possible unless cabled to a pc...correct? then I'm out I guess, can't take the risk.
