Sorry about that. I've corrected the original link.

I have no idea if the source for this info is correct, but I have seen quite a few posts on Twitter recently from members of both the dev team and the greenpois0n project seemingly hinting about imminent releases of both. I hope it's true, though. I've been "unjailbroken" since I sold my 3G and bought a 3GS on its release date. Way too long to go without Cydia.

Encouraging news. See the link in the OP for updated information.

God I really hope this comes to fruition.

If I still had a 3G I would care but the fact that I have all this unused RAM just makes me crave some resource hungry bolt-ons. :D

I can tell you the dev team took a big leap forward with their latest progress report available here: http://chronic-dev.org/blog/2009/10/another-progress-update/

Out today? I don't view it as likely. They've said they want to get it right. I'd guess weeks not months thought.

Your link was to the ChronicDevTeam update. The iPhone Dev Team is working on their own jailbreak and is apparently much closer to a release -- it has been described as imminent elsewhere. The bad new, however, is that the iPhone Dev Team jailbreak requires users who are on 3.0 to have already their ecid information on file. If you didn't do that (and its too late now), then you will have to wait for the ChronicTeam to release Greenpois0n.

awesome! but isnt 3.1 still buggy with battery issues and such? so updating to 3.1 and jb it still lead to problems?

This is true! I wouldn't update to this if all is fine for you on 3.0 or 3.01 due to new bugs introduced in 3.1.

not working for me at all, 3gs in restore mode on file with saurik, getting stuck at the connect to itunes screen, followed by the cannot restore iphone message

Smooth sailing. For me, at least. Also, i’d recommend the “Rock” app over Cydia. (Install via Cydia) You can backup your apps and then after a restore it’ll automatically download them all for you. Saved me well over an hour. Loads faster than Cydia. Everything about it is better. Definitely try it out if you haven’t already.

What does this really mean:

The iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 - PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box. If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment.

I have a 3GS on 3.0. At one time I puplerained it but it is not presently jailbroken.

So it appears that this will not work cause I never pwned...further I need a mac

Here's hoping there are other solutions in the works.

Looks like it's ready:

Yeah, i tested it earlier. Took about 20 minutes total.

I am still on 3.0 jailbroken and see no advantage in upgrading to 3.1, am I missing anything?

There are apps coming out that require 3.1 (Yelp, Dropbox to name a couple). Reorganizing the app order in iTunes is pretty cool. I'm not going to argue that 3.1 is a must-have though. I'm irritated that on 3GS 3.1JB the carrier detection stuff has gone awry (no carrier logo, and network "Not Available" in Settings->General->About).
