I have tried to JB using redsnow and absinth both latest versions, however it says that my version is not supported.

I then downloaded version 5.1.1 in hope of manually updating via iTunes and also received an error.

What is it that i am doing wrong. can i jb my device or not, my modem firmware is 2.0.10

there is no jb for 5.1, only for 5.0.1 or 5.1.1

Did you save your SHSH/blobs/hashes for 5.1.1? If you didn't you cant restore to it.

In that case only 5.1 or 6.01 is available

The phone already came with ios 5.1. so i dont have hashes for 5.1.1

Which version is first 5.1 or 5.1.1 ?

5.1 came before 5.1.1

Download TinyUmbrella, might be able to still save 5.1.1 SHSH blobs.

nope, you can only save blobs when the iOS version is signed by Apple, they stopped signing 5.1.1 3 days after 6.0 release.

You can save your blobs even when not on that firmware, but only when it is signed.

So it is only 5.1 or 6.01 for you

can you please explain what the signature is all about, I see people talking about it but it confuses me.

isnt there a way to redirect requests to cydia server through hosts so that the firmware is signed? i dunno what i am talking about but, there is no way for me to update to at least 5.1.1 manually?

No this is not possible as Cydia server only store saved files for your device and if you haven't saved them then you will be out of luck

You can not sure someone else either.

Nope.
You said it right, you dont really know. But if you dont have those unique shsh blobs for that particular device you can never restore to any firmware version that apple is not signing any more.
