Hello all. I am a long time lurker first time poster. I realize I may not get a lot of responses as I am new AND this could be a stupid question.

I am very familiar with the JB process on the iphone and recently added an Apple TV to go along with my Boxee set up and I am LOVING it, a match made in techgeek heaven. (After ATV JB of course)

The question, my co-worker wants me to jailbreak his Apple TV that he bought yesterday. I am sure he could follow a guide and do JB it but he has zero experience with SSH or how to use it and would not be able to add the main repos we all want.

Would I be able to JB his TV for him (It is here with him today) on my mac at home or even my PC at home and get it set up for him to just bring to his home and use? He has already setup the ATV but it is not JB. I would use either pwnage tool or whatever comprable program PC users use.

I feel like I am missing a step in my head and that this isnt possible but Ia m not awake yet. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.:D

Yep-The unit itself doesn't care (or even know) what OS the Jailbreak occurs on.

Wow, thanks! So I can just go home, unplug my apple TV, Jailbreak his and use Cyberduck to install the repos I think he would want and give it back to him to use at home with his itunes account? Eventually he will learn how to use WinSC or whatever program it is that PC users to SSH into the ATV.

This is pretty cool and I am sure he will appreciate this.

EDIT: I guess the only part I am confused about is when I JB his using my itunes account is how it does not effect the Apple TV he logs into his itunes about.

ATV2 is sort of the odd man out when it comes to this. Other devices care what iTunes account is used on the computer. ATV2, however, only uses iTunes (when plugged in via USB) for restoring. No personal data is transferred over USB.

All the user setup is done on the device itself when plugged into the TV. He'll setup home sharing this way. To make sure the jailbreak takes, just plug power and ethernet into it and see if you can SSH. If it connects, it's all set for the setup on his end.

Yep-guess I could have been more clear-sorry. Since there is no "syncing" with ATV2 and iTunes-the unit itself doesn't care what computer you restore from.

Also, other iOS devices will act the same way if you set them up as "new", perform the JB, then restore a back-up. I have JB my Girlfriend's iPhone 4 on my Mac and then synced it to her iTunes Windows without issues.
