Hi,

I understand that this is the right place for the most knowledgeable people on the iPhone.

I have a few basic questions and hope someone can guide me and take time out to reply

I have an iPhone (Ww48) so I am guessing this is 1.1.2. I also understand that the only unlock possible is by using a stealthsim / turbosim / nextsim / hypersim.

This is were my confusion is

1. Is it safe to use the USD 10 turbosim (made in HK)? Does the battery life reduce when we use this? or shall i go in for slightly expensive one like USD 40

2. When i jailbreak the 1.1.2, can i use the blue tooth headset, wifi and edge applications?

3. what do i need to do to permanently prevent an upgrade as i understand that if i upgrade the firmware, the phone may get bricked

4. Once i use the hardware unlock and jailbreak, is there a procedure to reverse this?

Hope these are some questions which you will take time out to answer

Thanks
Nikhil Bagri

Nikhil,

Yes, that should be 1.1.2, but you can be sure by checking in Settings, General, About, Version.

I've seen some reports that the sim add-ons use more battery power, and its probably safe to say that they do. I've never seen any good evidence that one solution uses up more power than another. Do any of them really make a noticable difference? hard to say. Mine doesn't seem to (turbosim III).

All of these should work just fine. Your EDGE settings will probably require some extra set-up depending on your service provider.

3. what do i need to do to permanently prevent an upgrade as i understand that if i upgrade the firmware, the phone may get bricked

I'm not sure, but I think someone has put an app out for this. You can always just refrain from updating the iPhone when iTunes asks you.

4. Once i use the hardware unlock and jailbreak, is there a procedure to reverse this?

Yes, I haven't done it myself, but I've read that you can revert back to your factory settings by restoring through iTunes. Your SIM will have a little piece cut out of it, though that shouldn't affect it's operation in another phone.

You can find more details in several other threads about each of these topics. Good Luck!
