Hey,

HD crashed a couple weeks ago and lost everything... 1000s of pics, 1000s of songs... I'm an idiot.

I'm trying to piecemeal what I can off my ipods, iphones, and now my apple tv to get my pics back (they are all on there).

Is there a way to jailbreak my apple tv and ftp them off the apple tv (using a mac, preferably)? All of the jailbreaks that I've seen require a restore (greenpois0n, pwnagetool), which will erase the pics.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Are you sure your talking about the ATV2? It doesn't store anything locally (it has very little internal storage), it would have been streaming your photo's from itunes on your mac/PC

That's what I thought.. I had it streaming photos from my hard drive as a screen saver, but then my hard drive crashed and the apple tv 2 was still streaming the same pics. It must have stored them.

Well then how is it still displaying all of my photos after my comp hard drive crashed?

A small buffer is used to cache the images, wouldn't be surprised if it's purged on the ATV losing power.

But as you said, they'd definitely be lost upon restoring, and I don't know of a JB which doesn't require one.

I got an idea!!!

I GOT AN IDEA!!!

To not TOTALLY loose them, take pictures of your TV screen. Won't be awesome quality but it's something.

Hope that helps :)

Have the same problem

Clearly no one has anything real to say about this subject. We'll start with the obvious things. Number one, I have a ridiculous number of photos running as screen saver on my Apple TV. First my Time Machine crashed and a few weeks later the hard drive fried all by its silent lonesome. So long photos. And number two: Here we are months later, a dozen power failures later and at least two ATV reboots and those same 600 pics are sliding across my screen, just out of reach. I'd like to think someone at Apple is puzzling out a way to retrieve those. Or are they just planning on iCloud being the solution...? Does anyone know how to get images out of a Second Gen Apple TV? I'm afraid as soon as we try to add a few more we're gonna have to say goodbye to most of the last five years of memories...

As other people have said, the aTV2 (the little black one) has very little on board storage, cetainly not enough to store 600 photos.

Are you sure your aTV2 is not streaming them form another online source like flickr or MobileMe? What are your screensaver settigs?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but the whole situation seems a little bizarre so I thought I'd ask the obvious.
