I'm particularly interested in an application that will do a persistent "keep alive" to the AT&T network at the expense of battery life. My iphone routinely will say "no network" or "searching..." when I know it can see a 3G connection (restarting will often make it reconnect).

I also have issues where I'll get 5 bars of 3G, but the connection will fail. I think a lot of this behavior is due to how the iPhone connects/disconnects from the network and to save battery life.

Anyone know of some good network utilities? I haven't jailbroken my iphone before but I'm fed up and need to do something about the service quality.
