It didn’t take long for the iPhone Dev Team to come up with a jailbreak solution for iPhone OS 3.1.3 which was recently released for iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, iPod Touch 2G and 3G. redsn0w 0.9.4 jailbreaks and unlocks iPhone 2G, jailbreaks iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1G and iPod Touch 2G ( non MC Models). If you have other models of the iPhone or iPod Touch, we suggest that you hold back from upgrading to firmware 3.1.3.

Here’s a step by step guide to jailbreaking iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G (don’t do it if you need to unlock it as well), iPod Touch 1G and iPod Touch 2G ( non MC models):

1. Download iTunes 9.0.3. This is the latest version of iTunes available so upgrade to it before starting to be sure you don’t run into any issues.
2. Download redsn0w 0.9.4 ( download link at the end of the post )
3. Download and install iPhone OS 3.1.3 on your iPhone or iPod Touch using iTunes.

4. Navigate to the following location on your computer C:\Users\{your windows user name}\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates and copy the iPhone OS 3.1.2 IPSW file (iPhone OS firmware) file to your desktop for easy access.

5. Run redsn0w 0.9.4 and click on browse. Point it to the iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware you just copied to your desktop. Make sure your iPhone or iPod Touch is already updated to OS 3.1.3

6. After redns0w has validated the firmware, it will show some options such as Install Cydia, Verbose boot etc. Make sure to check Install Cydia and Already pwned.

7. Turn off your iPhone or iPod Touch and connect it to your PC. Hit next in redsn0w. It’ll start patching the kernel of your iPhone firmware file.

8. Start your iPhone or iPod Touch in recovery mode by pressing both the power and home button until the help message on redsn0w disappears. If you had shutdown your device as told in step 7, this process will be faster.

9. Click next again. Now you’ll have to hold the power and while holding it, press the home button but don’t release it. After a few seconds, let go of the power button but keep the home button pressed until the firmware installation starts.

10. Now it’ll take some time for the process to complete. Once it’s done, you will have a jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch with firmware 3.1.3!

As noted above, don’t try this on your iPhone 3G if you don’t want to lose the unlock. As soon as there is a solution for iPhone 3GS users, iPod Touch 2G MC model users and iPod Touch 3G users. So stay away from iPhone OS 3.1.3 till then!

Hmm i tried this, device does not automatically reboot without you turning it off. It then boots up with out like anything has been done.

Of course you only choose "already pwned" if you want it unlocked correct?

I don't as I dont need the unlock just the jailbreak.

Nope ! Already pwned means it's already JB and you are just using it to install boot logos, verbose boot or re-install Cydia.

Has zero to do with unlocking.

Unlocking is done via Ultrasn0w or Blacksn0w.

Firmware 1.1.5 before and not 3.1.2

Hi, My previous firmware was only 1.1.5 then I uploaded it to 3.1.3 directly. I did not go thru 3.1.2.
I was wondering if I should copy the 1.1.5 instead and use it for red snow validation.

Any help? Thanks

Jailbreaking an MC Model?

Hi folks!

Please bear with me here....I`m brand new to the Ipod Touch 2g family....

I`ve read these posts & would like to jailbreak my Ipod but, I have the Ipod 3.1.3 (7E18) firmware, with an MC086LL model #...... Rev. 4-6-09.

I`m seeing that if you have an MC model this cannot be done? Or is it at all possible with the specs of my Ipod....Thanks for your time and my being a novice in this area, Michael
