Jailbreak iPhone and Visual Voicemail (UK on O2)

Can anyone confirm whether a jailbroken iPhone on O2 in the UK will work? I successfully jailbreaked it last week but couldn't get it to work. I have reverted back to a vanilla 1.1.2 for the time being. Are there some settings that need to be put into the phone in order to get it to work.

I figured out that I need to put in the APN settings for GRPS/Edge to work.

I am kinda missing the extra apps but want VV to work as well.

there are a couple of commands you have to run. I'd post a link if the iPhone supported copy and paste but if you google for edge o2 jailbreak you should find it pretty quickly.

I've just jailbroken my iPhone and entered the Edge settings... I can get webpages up all ok in Safari so I now it is working (that is with WiFi switched off).

If I tap on Voicemail, it will not show any settings. The icon will highlight but won't let me set it up.

Any ideas?

I still can't access my voicemail.

I have left a couple of voicemail message on my phone. A red disc briefly appears above the voicemail icon then disappears.

If I tap on the VM icon I can see the VVM settings. I try to set it up but it gets stuck on Saving greeting...

Is there something else I need to set up in order to get it to work.

I have successfully entered the O2 APN settings and get Internet access with WiFi switch off.

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

basically, what you need to do is enter the following commands from an ssh connection to your phone

rm /var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.carrier.plist

ln -s /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/O2_UK.plist /var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.carrier.plist

rm -f /var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

In Dial, type *5005*86*901#
then push call button. You will see a rotating wheel for a while and then voicemail button will redirect you to O2 voicemail. 901 is voicemail number for O2.

You can do for other carriers as well. For example, vodafone is *5005*86*121#

I have the exact same problem as skp574. My edge seams to be fine but VV didn't work. I did manage to set up a greeting, although it appeared to hang I want back to the springboard and called my number from my home phone and got my new message.

I then tried this:

rm /var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.carrier.plist

ln -s /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/O2_UK.plist /var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.carrier.plist

rm -f /var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

even though my edge appeared to be working OK, but got stuck on the second line with an error message saying that "/var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.carrier.plist" file or folder doesn't exist.

O2 suggested call 1760 to turn off voicemail and then 1750 to turn it back on. That didn't help.

Do you lot even know what you are talking about.

Visual voicemail is a feature that will only work with the o2 contract with the iphone. You can use normal voicemail?

Yep, I know what I was talking about. I think most of us on this thread have jailbreaked their iPhones and using the iPhone SIM and not any other.

The VVM doesn't work after a jailbreak, you have to kick it back into action again.

I found an answer on the Apple Forums. Type in the 1750, 1760 codes to deactivate then activate VM, then set a PIN. They restart the phone. This worked for me and all my messages appeared when I tapped the VM icon on the phone.

I didn't need to go as far as playing with .plist files.

However has anyone got stuck at this command :

I keep getting:

"no such file or folder"

I'm only worried because the first command worked fine and I don't want to leave my phone half done incase of problems.

I've had my O2 iPhone for a few weeks now and have loved it since the minute I set it free. I use Summerboard themes and it is now truly MyPhone! The one remaining problem was the visual voicemail, but using instructions in this thread and OpenSSH from the Installer.app, I managed to run the 3x commands and got it going.

This is what it's all about, sharing knowledge and making everyone just that little bit smarter when it comes to the technology. Tech Munkeys should rule the world!

I've only been supporting PC's professionally up to now, but really want to work at the Genius bar in the Mac store, how do I get in!!??

hey my Jail broken 2.0 first gen iphone i have a legit O2 Contract Sim when i click voice mail it works but it wont switch on it just says no new mesages when i dail 1750 or was it 1760 it wont switch on please help guys i want voice mail but visual would be nice

Hey guys anyone know if it's possible to retain VV on a jailbroken fw2.2 3G on a proper UK o2 contract?

I'm guessing the above advice is for older jailbreaks... or is it the same?

I'm getting my iphone in a couple of days but dont want to ruin the VV feature.
