I jailbroke my phone yesterday, and since then I have experienced quite a bit of lag.

At times, it just sits and sits. I've noticed that this happens particularly when I am installing an update for an app store app.

I've had it just there, and appear to be locked, so I rebooted it, and it didn't finish booting for several minutes!

The apps that I have installed are a few theme elements, NES, Scrobble, Boss Prefs, Video Recorder, SSH, and Mobile Terminal (sort of).

This is on a first gen 16 GB iPhone.

Could it be the theme that is slowing things down?

I feel liberated from the jailbreak, but I am also feeling a little let down from the performance.

I mainly did the jailbreak for two apps--Scrobble and NES. I'm thinking of dumping everything else, but I don't know yet if I should do something so drastic.

App Store apps really takes awhile to install especially if it's a big file and if you're installing thru your Iphone instead of Itunes, you just have to be patient with it. It has nothing to do with jailbreak. In fact installing jailbreak apps via cydia or installer are a lot faster than App Store apps, go figure that out :p

I have quite a few app store apps installed on my phone though, and pre-jailbreak I never ran into that problem.

Oh well. I may dump the theme and see if it makes a difference.

Does having a theme mean that a program is running in the background continuously?

Honestly, if it weren't for Scrobble, I probably wouldn't even have bothered with the jailbreak, so if I had to, I could just get rid of everything else.

I'd like to keep it though. It's been a fun experiment.

I wasn't actually referring to the time that it takes for the app to download--I was referring to the lag that the download creates.

I narrowed down the problem--It was the theme that I was using, which sucks, because I really like it.

For reference, the name of the theme is, "Xadacka's Mystic Blue."

With that theme active, the lag gets so bad that app launches take up to a minute, and as I previously mentioned, if an app is downloading, forget about it, because the phone becomes unusable!

Since I've stopped using the theme, everything is back to normal.

so then... Youre thread title is incorrect...

Psych I'm jus playin...

Nice job on narrowing it down...

Heh... Yeah. At the time though, the title was correct, because I didn't know for sure what the problem was.

I also like for thread titles to be as accurate as possible. I'll tell you what, I'll edit it. ;)

I'm not familiar with that theme, but I was using an html theme called "Time of Day" that changed the background depending on the time of day. It looked great and I loved it, but it caused pretty much every app on the phone to crash ALL THE TIME. It was ridiculous. Unless I had just restarted the phone, I couldn't use any app without it crashing halfway through a session.

I don't know if it was just that theme, or if it is all html themes, but since I've removed it, my phone is faster and hasn't crashed once.
