Just had my 4s delivered this afternoon. Set up as new when I turned it on and have yet to connect it to iTunes.

Previously had a jailbroken 3gs on 4.3.4. However ran into fair few problems with it, it was unstable and was unable to restore. As it was a tethered jailbreak, my 3gs was never turned off for, well, over a year.

Now do I jailbreak the 5.1.1 or upgrade to iOS6?

How stable is the untethered jailbreak for 5.1.1?

Extremely stable. Just make sure you only install iOS5 compatible packages from cydia. The 4S jailbroken on 5.1.1 is in my opinion the best jailbroken iPhone yet. It's extremely powerful and you can do some much. Don't hesitate to jailbreak. Have fun! (FYI since the first jailbreak for the 4S came out, I've had only a few crashes. Incredible job by the hackers and developers!)

cheers guys...

Just so you know, once you go to 6.0 you will not be able to downgrade to 5.1.1. Even if you had your shsh blobs saved, there's no going back. If you want more info, read the latest blog post on the iPhone-dev teams website.

Well, updated using RedSn0w (how easy was that jailbreak by the way) and up and running.

Cheers guys...

Actually, there are so many misconceptions going on here, that one can only go by what is contained in the post.

Many newcomers actually believe Redsn0w can upgrade firmware.

Obviously, in this case you knew better, just a typo :D

how did you go from 4.3.4 to 5.1.1? i thought apple doesnt sign 5.1.1 anymore..

i have problems with mine but its on 5.0.1 going to 5.1.1

i will never update from 5.1.1 on my 4S. or for that fact change phones, with the right cydia packages and smarts, the 4S perfect and will never be beat.
