Well, what would you do? I'm not sure what ios 7.1 is supposed to be bringing, but I know if I jailbreak now I'll not be able to update to 7.1 when it comes out, unless I do the backup/restore/update/re-jailbreak hoop jump.

Also, if I make an iTunes backup and jailbreak, how possible is it to brick an iPhone 5? I have jailbroken other iPhones In the past, I just get a little nervous when I go to actually follow through with the whole thing. If it causes problems, is it as easy as just restoring to your last iTunes backup for a jailbreak removal?

There more than likely won't be a jailbreak for iOS 7.1.

You cannot brick any modern iOS device, if anything goes wrong you can always do a DFU restore and restore from a pre-jailbreak backup, there are no worries with jailbreaking. However, if you restore after Apple releases iOS 7.1, you won't be able to re-jailbreak, as you'll have to restore to iOS 7.1.

Why not have both? I'm on 7.1b3, and it is running very well jailbroken. Details on how are all over this forum...and will also tell you at is coming in 7.1, so you can make an informed decision either way.

It might not be optimal to stay on 7.1 beta for some people as some tweaks will not have support for those beta versions

Ever? I know Apple patched the exploit but isn't that what happens with every iOS iteration? Jailbreak pops through a hole, Apple patches it in the new version, wait a while, new jailbreak, repeat.

True, but 7.0.4 isn't optimal either.

And all the tweaks I've used so far have worked well with 7.1b2 spoofed to 7.0.4. Haven't tried chpwn's IconSupport tweaks, but I'll live without.

Even if I see no further compatibility (which isn't likely, since I think a lot of code and UI layout overlaps between b2 and 7.0.4 its just cleaned up code and a work in progress at the same time being beta), I'm a happy camper.

7.0.4 on my iPad was atrocious that home screen animation was not smooth at all and safari crashes ALL THE TIME. Never bothered to test it long enough on my iPhone 5 to know and I've heard iOS 7.0.4 is more developed on iPhones than pads, but figured what the heck. Go big or go home.

plus I've had nearly a month now testing iPad on 7.1b2 and iPhone for like 3 weeks or maybe a bit less. But nothing I've come across that's a deal breaker for me

I'd wait...

Why not jailbreak and then wait if it's a dilemma and play with 7.1 GM loaded on iPhones at the Apple store when it arrives and evaluate from there?

If you play your cards right, jailbroken anything is like iOS 25.1.

yes, just letting the OP know the pros and cons. some people won't even notice the performance increase going from 7.0.4 to 7.1 beta

----------

Faith in the jailbreak community. Unless they did something like Samsung on the Android devices it's gonna happen eventually.

Of course, I sure hope 7.1 will be jailbroken but I'm not holding my breath on it seeing that the iOS 6.x jailbreak was just once

yes, it may not have been worth releasing one seeing how iOS 7 is so soon but the public release of 7.1 is rumored to release in march (unless it's changed since I've heard about it) and at that time, iOS 8 will be around the corner so it also might not be worth burning exploits for 7.1

I remember after the 6.1.2 jailbreak was patched, many people said that we would never see another jailbreak for iOS. Now we have evasi0n 7.

I'm not saying 7.1 will be jailbroken or that it won't. I don't think anyone knows that.

I disagree with some of these posts. I don't think 7.1 will be jailbroken. Remember after apple patched the iOS 6 jb with 6.1.3 and 6.1.4? There wasn't a new jb for that set of iOS's until iOS 7 was jailbroken. I don't think the exploits will be burned on 7.1 when they can be saved for iOS 8. Just my opinion.

Tl,dr - I don't think iOS 7.1 will be jailbroken - I think this is the last JB til iOS 8.

They jailbroke 6.0 then 6.1, they don't wast their time with x.x.x updates.

It's bassically irrelevant if 7.1 wil be jailbroken or not.

There is no drawback in jailbreaking 7.04, so why wait?

My IP5 and iPad2 work flawlesly on 7.04 with both loaded with tweaks.
Most important tweaks are updated only ones left are Lockinfo and InteliScreenX.

Tons of new tweaks and functionality.

If you don't like it just DFU-restore back to 7.04 and restore a 7.04 backup.

And safari download manager

iOS 6.0 and 6.1 used the same exploits. What are you trying to say here? That 7.1 will get jailbroken?

For the same reason people said the same thing about 7.0. It's like Captain Kirk climbs the mountain because it's there.

The situation is a bit different, a jailbreak is already released for iOS 7 as opposed to a jailbreak for iOS 7 not being released yet at all

I'm pretty sure 7.1 will be jailbroken privately, but whether it'll get a public release, I'm not so sure about that
