Hi all:

I decided to do the jailbreak today using redsnow. Everything went great, however, when I tried to install an MMS app from CYDIA everything went wrong. After it installed the package, I pressed the button to reboot my phone like it asked. After that point it began to reboot, but has frozen at the apple logo bootup screen. I've told it to rest by holding own the top button and the home button, but it just restarts and freezes at the same place.

It won't show up in itunes for a full restore and i can't get it into DFU mode. Thoughts?

Try turning the phone off then pushing and holding the home button and plugging it into your computer. As soon as it powers on it should automatically kick it into restore mode.

Are you sure you are initiating DFU mode correctly? Press power and "home" button at the same time, then release power after 10 seconds all while being connected to itunes?

right on, I'll give it another shot. Thanks all.

So then, basically I need to get it into DFU, restore it to the iphone software, and then jailbreak it again right?

Pretty much. Have you considered using Purplera1n? It's much quicker and easier.

no, i haven't. Redsnow seemed to go pretty quick though, I guess I'll take a look at purplerain though.

So, is it normal for apps from Cydia to freeze the iphone at that stage? Or was that a fluke?

I really can't speak for redsn0w because I was never able to get it to finish. Purplera1n has had no such issues. I will say there are some other issues with apps crashing though.

I'd venture to say that all around the 3.0 jailbreak is pretty much an unstable debacle.
