iPhone Jailbreak question

Hey I'm new to jailbreak and I jailbreaked my 4s last night (iOS 5.1.1)

So before I JB, I did a back up on iTunes. After JB I restored it. Now I have some new photos and music (not from cydia). If I go on iTunes and backup, it won't backup anything cydia or JB right? Because I want to remove jailbreak. So if I iTunes back up, it won't back up anything JB right??

And also, how do I get jailbreak completely off??? Do I reset all contents and settings, then restore? Do I just do a restore from iTunes??

I want every single thing off. Thanks

If you backup with iTunes while jailbroken, it won't backup the jailbreaks, so you're safe.

While you are jailbroken, DO NOT hit 'Reset All Settings' because that will only screw everything up, you'll get stuck in a loop of resets.

Backup with iTunes, hit Restore and then just Restore from Backup. You will be non-jailbroken with everything up to date.

OP this stament is NOT completely accurate, if you do a backup on iTunes while jailbroken, some jailbreaking info will be backup, Jailbreaking apps unlike the App store don't have a standard data structure, so some apps use and store data on the user land section of the file system, iTune will backup everything on the "user Land". (Most of the time it is not visible, since Apps, and Tweaks themselves won't be backup, but theirs settings and data would be).

As previously said, do NOT do a 'Reset All Settings', if you want to get rid of your Jailbreak completely, do a DFU restore and set your phone a "new" (do not restore from backup, or restore a backup from a date previously from your first jailbreak)

again not true, that is very dependable of what was install when you were jailbroken some tweaks change the default UI and some default configuration files that would be backup and restore and since the stock OS does not know how to handles this changes it would create a lot of issues.

OP, if you restore from a jailbroken backup you most like would experienced issues, lag and crashes, if you want a completely removal of the jailbreak you can't restore from backup.

I don't agree with you. I've gone back and forth between jailbreak and normal mode more than a dozen times. Everytime I would go back to normal I would restore from backup. Never have I set it up as a new phone, except when I got the iPhone for the first time about 2 years ago.

And I didn't have issues with anything - no lags, crashes or catastrophes as you proposed.

And my list of tweaks is not minute. UI changes, tweaks, functionality tweaks, adding features that were blocked by the carrier (TetherMe, 3G Unrestrictor).

I'm happy for you, however your agreement is not required to make the statement true, you can do a quick search and see countless people having issues and a simple setup as "new" solve it, I am a developers of Jailbrake app and Apple store app, I can guarantee you that jailbreaking info is backup and restore by iTunes. OP asked and i quoted: "how do I get jailbreak completely off" .... if he wants to do that..he need to do a setup as new. if he restore jailbreaking data WOULD be back.

If issues are encounter after the fact is irrelevant since as I said it is very dependable of the app installed, but there is only one way to "get jailbreak completely off" and that is setup as new.

Actually you had...You had encounter those issues yourself...These are the type of issues you avoid if you don't restore backups.

Maturola is correct, restoring a stock iPhone to a jailbroken backup restores all sorts of jailbroken nuances back to the phone.

Those threads don't prove what you're saying because I was talking about my phone AFTER a jailbreak and not a phone in normal mode.

My case is presented, is up to the OP to decide what he wants to do, reading those threats it is VERY clear to me that the issues you had experienced are due to not property restoring and starting fresh on your phones.

If you have not backed up since the jailbreak, then just do a restore with iTunes and you will be fine. Jailbreak will be done with nothing leftover.

That is because you haven't installed anything that will bring over when you restore it. I used MakeItMine back in iOS4 and it changes the carrier's name. I restore it from backup and it still shows the carrier's name that i changed even though i'm not jailbroken.

Your contacts should be in your gmail, Outlook, or Mac's Address Book. After you restore your iPhone, set up as new and sync those things back.

OP = in this case you, stand for Original Post or Original Poster

DFU = Device Firmware Upgrade, this is a very specific type of restore that happen before the boot loader even load on the phone. You can google and youtube "DFU restore" and you will find many steps by steps.

Okay so I followed the sticky guide and I backed up then restored. I noticed I have 1.5 gb in 'other'. So I guess I'll just set up my phone as new. But I still want to have my notes photos calendars etc. so I went on iCloud and turned those on. If I start as new iPhone and login to iCloud, those will all be synced to my phone right??


After I selected notes photo stream reminders calendars all that in the ICloud settings, there was still 100% storage left (5gb) So I didn't know if I had to do a back up on iCloud. But then it says that will also back up all docs and data.

So if I turn those on in iCloud, when I set up as new iPhone and login to iCloud, all the stuff will be synced to my phone right? Cuz I have important stuff in calendars and notes
