Jailbreak question

so im using pwnage tool 3.1.4 to jailbreak my iphone 3g. when i click on iphone for the device im using it doesnt recognize the firmware. but if i click on iphone 3gs it recognizes it. if i build using the ipsw by clicking 3gs, will it work for my 3g?

Did you download the right firmware file? The 3G and 3GS have slightly different features (for example, the 3GS firmware has the compass app, etc). You'll need to download the software that says 'iPhone2,0' in it (2,0 is the model identifier for the iPhone 3G). If it says 'iPhone3,0' then it's 3GS software and will not work on your 3G.

well i updated firmware through itunes so it is what itunes downloaded.

i believe according to PT, the 3G and the 3GS are the same now.

The iPhone icon to left is for 2G phone, the iPhone icon to right is for 3G and 3GS.

Check mark that one.
