I might be just me, but I am kind of getting sick of all the changes in the Jailbreaking tool names. I mean first it was called quickpwn, now its redsnow or yellow snow or somekind of snow. I find it very confusing and I think that causes some people to use the wrong tool thus messing up their phones whereas they could just point and click if they just used the same names over and over. Granted there are just people who pick anything, have no idea what they are doing and mess up their phones.

Now before some 10 year old douche geek kid with his 4 iphone's, their parent's credit cards, and no friends who posts on here five times a day (and we all know who they are) says its because they were made by different people or something to that effect and tries to sound all intellectual, I understand how changes come about so there is no need to tell me that.

I just think that if they ported the common names from tool to tool to ensure better continuity it would be less confusing. I understand they may work differently but most people probably would associate pwnage tool with building custom ipsws and quickpwn as the tool for quickly jailbreaking the phone without the need of a custom ipsw. They are almost brand names indicating a function at that point like "Xerox" or something. Just my thoughts.

I am an avid jailbreaker and because I use the pwnage tool, I never have problems which results in me not having to visit their site everyday. I only go there when there is a firmware update so it gets a bit frustrating to go there and say to myself "Alright, now what do I use?".

Because I know it is a sin to not go out of my way to thank the dev community for all their hard work and emphasize I fully and truly am grateful for all they do and do in fact realize they do this for free and in their own spare time.....let me say "Thank you so much. You are sooooooo amazing. Keep up the good work! :):):):):)"

Just my thoughts. What are yours.

I think the dev team stopped using quickpwn because people started selling it.

I don't see the point of this post. Yes the names are confusing and yes someone will no knowledge of jailbreaking would have to get to know the names. The reason they "changed" from quickpwn to redsnow was because redsnow was the original jailbreak for the ipod touch 2g using the 24kpwn exploit which is found in the 3gs as well.

I may not be a 10 year old douche with 4 iphones, but I'm pretty sure if they could keep the same 1-2 names for everything they would as it is easier for everyone.

For the most part, they have been very consistent.

Pwnagetool: Creates custom IPSW's for 2G and 3G and I think iTouch
Quickpwn: Now outdated. Without creating a custom IPSW it pwns the device
redsn0w: Replaces Quickpwn and works on all iPhone and iTouch devices

Now the rest of the tools are unlock tools
yellowsn0w: 3G
ultrasn0w: EDIT: 3G and 3Gs

That's it... So the only redundant programs are Quickpwn and redsn0w.

I actually think it's easier to remember that I need to use purplera1n or redsn0w to jailbreak my 3GS rather than Jailbreak #3 and #5. I would say that this is the case with a lot of products. Strange model numbers and names that don't really mean anything. It's being catchy more then being logical. That's just the way it is. That is why we have forums and google to look these things up.

I might be just me, but I am kind of getting sick of all the changes in the razor names. I mean first it was called Sensor, now its Mach 3 or Fusion or somethink. I find it very confusing and I think that causes some people to use the wrong razor thus messing up their faces whereas they could just point and shave if they just used the same names over and over. Granted there are just people who pick anything, have no idea what they are doing and mess up their faces.

@spamdumpster

Real men use safety razors or straight razors anyway, so your entire argument is irrelevant.

1) The Dev Team created a tool called Quickpwn.
2) Some guy registered www.quickpwn.com and started making money by linking to Quickpwn and filling the page with ads.
3) The guys in the Dev Team didn't like some other guy using their work and decided to change the name of the tool to RedSn0w so that the domain name www.quickpwn.com was worth nothing.

My thoughts are that the waaaaambulance is on it's way to assist you with your needs.

I'm a 30+ geek who is on his 5th iPhone and my OWN credit cards who posts at least 5X a day currently...

As an avid jailbreaker it's easy to keep up with the lingo and terminology. If however I was a casual tinkerer, I can see where there may be some bits of confusion. :) However clarification on the *sn0w's, etc was posted previously.
