want to unlock my 5c from at&t to use with t-mobile. there are so many offers out there for unlocking that im scared which is real and which is a ripoff. also do i need to jailbreak it before.

There is no unlock software hack available for your phone.
Only way to unlock it is to either contact AT&T and ask them to unlock it or buy an IMEI unlock for it.
Jailbreaking and unlocking are 2 different things.
You can JB your 5C but you cannot unlock it yourself via hack.
And no you don't need to JB it before.

If you are bailing out of a contract and don't pay the fees.
They will blacklist the imei number and it will not work anywhere within the USA even if unlocked. pay the fee or talk tmobile into paying the fee or just get a new phone
If your 5c is a discounted price contract phone, you have very few choices if you break the contract or fail to pay any remaining balances due

so i would have to pay early termination fees to have them unlock it.

walmart has a t-mobile deal, $40.00, lg phone for $150.00, that might be the best way to go. its not my plan or phone it the ex wifes. but now im paying the $70.00 a month for a phone she doesnt really need.

dont think so going to walmart. but directly going to them they do. and here how it works, they make you sell them your phone for a fraction of it worth, my case $150.00 for a one year old iphone 5c, then sell me a 5c at $20.00 a month for two years. so they give me $150.00 for my phone and sell me a 5c for $480.00, they are loaning you the money for early termination, thats all. asked them why i couldnt just keep my 5c and they said thats there policy. anyway i can pay $200.00 termination to att and they will unlock my phone, then to walmart and $35.00 a month, plus the sim card = $25.00. its my wifes phone and she ended up not needing it for what she originally bought the service for. she thought she was going to be traveling the states, not so, staying close to home instead so a $70.00 a month plan with att isnt needed. she might make one call a week on her phone, four calls a month for $70.00 is kinda of expensive calls. and the four calls are not even needed.

cost me $249.00, worth it. she has had the phone for 10 months from new and know it. always been in a lifeproof case. they will unlock in the next couple days then off to walmart. t-mobile for $38.00 a month, unlimited text and talk plus data, will be good enough for her. i realize the at&t is good if your traveling across the states but she isnt going to be doing that, just stay around local area so t-mobile will do fine. but im all legal now.

everything went smooth at walmart. 5c unlocked and t-mobile sim card and plan working in 3 hours. now ill see the difference between at&t and t-mobile in the next few days, but right now all i see is unlimited text and talk plus data for $35.00 a month, and no contract.hard to believe.

Not so sure you can compare the speed of att service & tmobile using an att phone.
You will not be seeing the full tmobile 4G & lte with that phone if memory serves me correct since it was built to be for att
I may be wrong and apple could have changed this, I have not been following apple iphones since i moved to a better phone platform ;)

originally the iphone 5c was going to be used all across the country, and be used quite a bit, but not anymore, maybe one or two calls a week locally. thats why i paid the early termination fee and switched over to walmarts plan. from what ive heard, at&t would be better for making a connection more often than the other providers. this phone is only a year old and seeing s at&t and t-mobile have the same type of system i should be alright. as soon as it was activated and ported over it worked. i have a 4s with verizon and the 5c with t-mobile seems to get out the same, yeah i have to stand in the same spot in my front yard to get that sweet spot. funny, i should put a big red X on the ground so i know where to stand to get the best reception. i can say that at&t is very polite and helpful when your cancelling your contract with them, but thats smart business practice. so for a cheap local plan its walmart, if your going to travel all over than i guess its at&t.

Actually the iphone 5C and 5S have all 3G HSPA+ 4G and LTE bands used by both AT&T and Tmobile so it will work fine.
Apple did change this since it was like you are saying during the early iphone 5 models that couldn't get 4G, HSPA+ on T Mobile.
Just curious but what better phone platform did you move on to?

No I'm not going to entertain a Chevy vs Ford thread
I still own many, many apple devices both ios & osx

Our main phones are no longer from apple, it works best for us ;)
