Jailbreak/Unlock Questions

The questions are more generalised and therefore don't suit the original title of Best Unlock Solution, therefore new thread.

Ok thanks for the replies. I have a few more questions!

-> If the phone is preloaded with 2.2.1 (02.30.03), can I restore it using QuickPwn and a custom FW back to 2.2 (02.28.00)? I have seen that there are ipsw files on the iClassified website, but maybe this won't change the BB back?

-> If the phone is 2.2 (02.28.00), and I want to update to 2.2.1, where can I get thecustom firmware that won't alter my BB? i.e. result in 2.2.1 (02.28.00)? - it seems this can only be used with a Mac and Pwnagetool?

-> Differences between QuickPwn and Pwnagetool? Is it simply that the Pwnagetool allows more custom input, whereas the Quick version is nice and simple with easy steps?

-> The latest Yellowsn0w release will unlock right up to 2.2.1 (02.28.00) including 2.2 (02.28.00)?


-> Last one! - If I get the phone from the online Apple store on PAYG O2, and it comes unactivated, will I need to fully activate with O2 or can it be done another way?

No offense, but usually if someone is clueless as to the process then it's generally advised that you don't attempt to jailbreak/unlock.

I'm not clueless to the topic, I understand the baseband, firmware, unlock/jailbreak solutions, I just wanted to get a better understanding for the combinations of successful jailbreak/unlock.

You are correct it is not possible to downgrade the Baseband so if you have 2.30.03 then you will not be able to use yellowsn0w until a major update is available, which i think will be after 3.0 is out if at all.

These are available on torrent sites etc but i have always created the IPSW's myself with pwnage tool

Yes thats pretty much it (i think)bwith Pwnage you can preserve the baseband with quickpwn you cannot

Quickpwn or the Pwnage tool can hacktivate the handset for you but I have never needed this as i have alway used O2. You will be fine.

Nice to get some actual response rather than some nerdy reply that I should know stuff already.

I'll activate via O2 and then jailbreak/unlock following. Just hope it doesn't come preloaded with 2.2.1!

Sorry, we get asked this question at least once daily, gets old. I recommend you bookmark the Dev Team's website for any future updates and stuff.
