Jailbreaking a new iphone 3g

Apple were very kind to to replace my previous iphone 3g and now i have a "new" iphone 3g 3.1.2 BB 05-11-07 pre-installed.

My question is...if i were to jailbreak the iphone and do not require the unlock software as the iphone can be unlocked via o2-UK, do i still require to upgrade/restore the iphone with a custom ipsw or simply just jailbreak using blackra1n using the current pre-installed ipsw?!

You can just run BlackRa1n and it will then be jailbroken.

If you install OpenSSH don't forget to change the passwords
