I just received a carrier unlock through AT&T for my iPhone 3G. I haven't actually unlocked it YET, though AT&T did send me the unlock code and instructions via email.

My question is, can I jailbreak the phone after doing the carrier unlock through iTunes? Are there any precautions or alterations that I must do to the jailbreak process? (And what process/method would you recommend for JB on the 3G?).

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. My iPhone 3G is currently on 4.2.1 (8C148), 05.15.04.

They sent you the unlock code ??

AT&T authorized unlocks are done via AT&T loading the IMEI into Apple's whitelist servers

Sorry, was only quoting the tech. I haven't actually received a 'code' and i'm still expecting a follow-up email from AT&T after they review my ticket.

But that's beside the point of my thread.

There are no precautions. If you're already jailbroken, you can activate the unlock without restoring. Search for instructions.

Use SAM or Redsn0w to deactivated the phone, than connect to itunes, it wil reactivate and will be unlocked.

Or you can restore and rejailbreak.
