Jailbreaking and Firmware 2.0

Hi, I want to jailbreak my iPod touch. But I have a few questions first.


First,

With the new firmware coming out in a month or less, is it practicle to jailbreak my iPod now?

Will I need to install the jailbreak again when I get the new firmware?

Will I lose anything I installed from the jailbreak when I get the new firmware?

Will anything happen to my iPod if I get the new firmware with a jailbreaked iPod?

You decide yourself if you think it's practical, I can't tell you that. Offhand I'd say do it, unless you want to be without benefit of extra features for that long.

Yes you'll need to re-jailbreak to get the new firmware 2.0 and you will loose the applications you installed since your previous jailbreak.

Will anything happen? Nothing should happen if you jailbreak correctly, there are many guides for that so I won't go over em. I used ZiPhone twice (once on my iPod touch and once on my iPhone without any problems, but everyone should JB with the program they're the most comfortable with).

Remmember that 2.0 will NOT be jailbreakable using ziphone or iliberty.

ONLY pwnage will jailbreak the final 2.0 firmware so you will have to use that and wait for it to be updated.

The other methods use a security bug to jailbreak which Apple has fixed in 2.0.

You make it seem like there was only one security hole, and that Apple has patched it and it is now perfect.

Every hack out their has used some security bug, if that's what you want to call it. Pwnage uses a security bug, ZiPhone uses one, Installer used one on 1.0.0-1.0.2. www.jailbreakme.com uses a TIFF exploit in Safari on 1.0.0-1.1.1, 1.1.2 uses an iTunes exploit dealing with backed up hardlinks, 1.1.3 and newer use a bootloader downgrading hack to jailbreak.

They all use different approaches. I'm sure they'll find one for 2.0 other than pwnage, but at this point there's really no reason to use anything but pwnage.

At this point, with the final release of 2 expected within the next couple of weeks, I'd just wait and see what the App Store offers. It is of course up to you, but personally I try to keep things "official" to reduce the chance of something going wrong.

I didn't mean to make out that there was no other security bugs.

It is just some people think ziphone is the only way to jailbreak your phone/ipod and no other method will work.

We will see if there is another method to jailbreak 2.0 but pwnage works so well I would use it happily.
