Jailbreaking and Unlocking a 1.1.3 Iphone

Hello everyone, just purchased a 8gb Iphone and it came with the 1.1.3 firmware OTB.

Now I realize that many people are saying that unlocking is so easy and simple. However, I have been reading guides and tutorials since 8:30 pm and I am confused in some areas.

In my opinion ILiberty and Iclarified are the simpliest ways of unlocking the Iphone. My difficulty lies though with jailbreaking the Iphone.

Note that guide says at the beginning "These instructions assume that you have already jailbroken the particular firmware you would like to be on. This works from 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 firmware!You can find instructions on how to do that here:"

Okay so you click here and it says "How to Officially Update and Jailbreak to 1.1.3 iPhone Firmware (Installer)"

Why is it using the word to?? Im already on 1.1.3 so why would I need to jailbreak TO 1.1.3?

It has another link which says "If you have 1.1.3 OTB follow the downgrade link above to downgrade and jailbreak your iPhone."

When you go to that page to downgrade the page says "These are instructions on how to downgrade an iPhone that was accidentally upgraded to 1.1.3 Firmware."

How did I accidentally downgrade anything? The phone came with 1.1.3 OTB and the site said it would give instructions on how to jailbreak a OTB 1.1.3 so why is it talking about accidentally and downgrading etc.

The site when speaking about Iliberty then says "Before following these instructions you should have already restored your iPhone to 1.1.4 using iTunes"
However, it doesnt tell me how to get into the mode that would enable this restore.

Im am thoroughly confused.

I am definitely not interested in Ziphone as I have enough headaches would rather not deal with bluetooth and WIFI issues.

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

I am a newbie here as it concerns the unlocking of the Iphone and Apple's current products.

I do not even have Itunes installed yet.

I would be VERY grateful for any help and clarification you provide. Thanks in advance for the responses.

It would really seem that Pwnage is the way to go.

However, if you want something more tried and tested, I'd recommend iPlus.

Like you, I got a 1.1.3 OTB phone. I downloaded the 1.1.4 firmware and restored to it by iTunes.

I then ran iPlus 2.0b and in a few minutes had an unlocked, jailbroken 1.1.4 phone which has worked perfectly ever since. Wi-fi, YouTube, Locate Me, all are fine!!

Is this the same guide you had used?

Also when I download the 1.1.4 restore file I notice it says "Type: Ipod Software Update File"

If you hover your mouse on the file do you see the same thing "Ipod Software Update File"

Just trying to be super careful since someone here posted that the Ipod Itouch software bricked their phone.

Yes, that's the page I followed to do it all.

The iPhone software is called "iPhone1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw" - I think the tip you get when you hover depends whether iTunes knows you have an iPhone or not - or maybe on what version of iTunes you have.

The file size is 165,964 Kb.

If the name and size are right, and you got it from the link on the page on Hackthatphone, you'll be OK. Make sure you use Shift and Restore in iTunes so that you get to choose that file

If you use the International Payload file (I think you might need that for Jamaica), make sure the zipfile you download is 11,833 Kb size, as there is a smaller incorrect version around which screws the whole process up.

Read all the instructions carefully, and follow them!

The only thing I found tricky was getting it into DFU mode to do the restore, but it comes easily enough with practice.

You do not need to download the firmware file manually.

Just download iTunes and install it.

Plug the iPhone in - put it in restore mode and it will download the latest CORRECT firmware through iTunes then restore it so its up to date.

Moi un Mouton, im experiencing difficulty getting the phone into recovery mode as well. Attempting to try the unlock again now. If you go to the page and just attempt to download the file its 162 kb not 165. hmmm. Im sooo nervous it hurts.

When I hold down the power and home button for 10 secs the screen goes blank but then the Iphone just disappears from Itunes and then I hear a ping the sound you hear when ausb device has been disconnected.

plug your iphone usb...open itunes ...press the sleep button on top and press the home button at the same time...now when it gose black let go of the top sleep button but keep holding the home button for like 7 seconds or so till itunes detects it in recovery mode..

I found with mine that if I put it in the dock while holding just the home button for several seconds, it went into the restore mode, you could try that.

The file is OK, it comes from the Apple website, and the size I gave you is the same as 162.1 MB (you divide my figure by 1024, not 1000).

Don't worry, you'll get there

I have unlocked two phones without a problem.
Just that I am not sure if I remembered to let the last one reboot twice at the end. Will this cause a problem?

The phone would have rebooted itself no matter what you did unless you turned it off yourself before it did it automatically.

So as long as everything is working then I wouldn't worry I am sure it is ok - maybe turn it off and on in case you haven't just to double check lol
