Jailbreaking and unlocking NEW iphone 2G

Hey,

I jsut got my 2G iPhone replaced by apple, so it's new in shrink wrap etc. So it has the Connect to iTunes screen, and I assume it's running 2.2.1. So how do I get 3.0.1 on here and still jailbreak? I want to jailnbreak it back and unlock it for T-Mobile, but I want 3.0.1. Anything special on the jailbnreak? Doesn't the phone need to be on 3.0.1 to jailbreak for 3.0.1? Any help would be great. Oh, I'm on a mac using redsn0w. Thanks!

Put it into DFU mode, connect to iTunes and let it update to 3.0.1.

Meanwhile, download the 3.0 ipsw for your phone, here:

Put it back into DFU mode, run RedSn0w, choose the 3.0 file you just downloaded (NOT the 3.0.1 file). Tutorial here:

Choose unlock and Cydia.

Ahh! DFU Mode! Of course! So just put it in DFU and connect to itunes, install 3.0.1 then jb? I like! Thanks
