Sorry for the new thread but I couldn't see a FAQ anywhere.

I'm looking to jailbreak my 7.0.4 iPhone 5. I've never done it before so I was only wondering how easy it is to restore back to normal and when I go through with the jailbreak, does it wipe my data and I start from fresh? Only reason is I'd like to keep my apps, their data and my text messages..

It doesn't delete anything. Nothing happens to your personal files. Make sure to back up your phone before just in case a problem occurs(most issues have been resolved so you shouldn't have any probs).

Restoring back to normal is easy. Again, make sure you have a backup of your stuff. But as far as jail breaking your device, it's easy as pie

Thanks for replying.

Although I am having problems. I went through the jailbreak but got to the stage where you click the evasi0n icon which I did, then it reboots and it should say jailbreak complete on my mac but it doesn't, the program just disappears and nothing happens on either device...?

Just keep in mind that restoring back to stock is easy ONLY when Apple is stil signing the current version of iOS that can be jailbroken.

If Apple fixes the exploits in 7.1 then restoring will upgrade you to 7.1 which means you lose your jailbreak.

Right now it's not an issue because Apple is still signing 7.0.4. But as soon as that window closes…

In general, there's no "confirmation" dialogue that you are jailbroken. Take a look at your device for an app called Cydia. It'll be an icon you're probably not familiar with.

If Cydia is on your device, you're jailbroken.

There's no Cydia on there..? Just the evasi0n one. I'll try again I guess.

Do you use a passcode on your device? If so, disable it before you start the jailbreak.

Make sure you have never done an OTA (over the air) software update. If you have, back up, restore in iTunes, restore your backup, and then jailbreak. It will work for sure that way.

I have done an OTA so I guess that's why? if I do this, I'll just be restoring and not losing anything right?

edit: seems to be done. I have Cydia now. Thanks for that :)

You will lose everything because you restoring to new. That's the reason he told you to back it up first. After I restored my iPad 4, during the set-up, I actually was prompt to restore my latest cloud backup. So once I had all my apps back, then I jailbreak and it went smoothly.

is there some limitations still guys, like that substrate update or whatever its called (talking for an iPhone 5)?
