Jailbreaking on 2.2....already updated.

Hi Guys,

have looked through the threads but coudlnt find exactly what i was looking for so thought someone could help me out.

I have a 3G and updated it to 2.2. I have never jailbroken my phone so want to get it right the first time to avoid possibly bricking it.

from what I have read I would need to update to 2.2 which i have done and then simply run the jailbreak quickpwn app. is this correct?

ive read somewhere else that i would have to jailbreak and then restore to 2.2? if i was to jailbreak and then restore, wouldnt it wipe the jailbreak contents off of my phone?

Thanks for that Jmann, but eventually when an update comes out, would i be able to update to a jailbroken version of hte firmware straight away or would i have to update to a legit version and then jailbreak that?

Every time you update it's going to put a fresh version of the OS on the phone. It will need to be jailbroken each time.
 
I NEED HELP!!!

i have followed hte process to a tee but now when my phone rebooted it hangs on the apple logo.

it then turns off and goes back onto the apple logo. what should i do?

I would suggest restoring your iphone back to a previous backup or factory settings and quickpwn it again.

Don't worry your iphone isn't broken or damaged, it just sometimes takes 2 tries to get it jailbroken.

I think the most common mistake is where people are not letting go of the home/on off switch at the exact correct times when prompted by Quickpwn.

It would surprise me if this was the case cuz I've actually spaced out and missed the cues given by quickpwn and it still worked out fine for me.

Restore is the cure all for the iPhone. No matter what you do to it this will fix it.

Ahh, I was really worried when I came to do the two button press. I shouldn't of worried so much ><

my iphone is working!!!


it kept on rebooting in a loop but i then pulled out the cable and it booted in. im not sure if i had to do this anyway but there wasnt anything telling me to do so.


just if this happens again, how would i restore my phone. what sequence of buttons would i hold and would i do this while the cable would be plugged in the whole time?

1. Unplug your phone.
2. Turn the phone off. Hold the home and sleep/wake buttons until the screen flashes and the phone turns off.
3. Push and hold the home button.
4. While you're holding the home button, plug the phone in.
5. Keep holding the home button for 10 or so seconds until the iPhone shows an iTunes logo and a USB cable, prompting you to plug it into iTunes.
6. iTunes will detect it and you just hit restore and you'll be on your merry way.

got more problems. wondering if someone could share their wisdom?


i had to restore my ipod as i installed kate from installer and then couldnt make any calls.

once i restored it i accidentally backed up a blank phone and lost my backup :S (no biggie)

i then put all my apps back on and then tried to re-jailbreak my iphone but it just froze at the apple logo once hte jailbreak had installed.


is there anything that i would have done to make it freeze on the apple logo? its happened all three times ive tried it. it wouldnt have anything to do with the way and duration i hold the buttons to get it into recovery mode to jailbreak it would it. it does get to the installer page and everything but always freezes when the apple logo comes up.


would it have anything to do with installer. should i not install it?

installer has been left in the dust with stability/popularity when compared to cydia. There is really no reason why you should use installer if you are on 2.2 or 2.1. Cydia is much more stable and has a lot more 3rd party support. And also I would recommend using winterboard instead of kate. Also you should try a dfu restore and then don't install installer when you pwn your iphone.

this is gonna sound like a stupid question but is there a difference between a regular restore and a DFU restore.

Also, cant i just make a custome firmware pwned and with Cydia in it or cant i do that for 2.2? i have a windows btw.

Thanks Jmann, will give a try when ive got a few hours spare. I cant understand why my phone never gets past the boot logo when ive pwned it but i suppose i will keep trying till it works :D
