Hey what's up everyone. I'm new to the whole jailbreaking scene and still trying to figure all this out. I have a 3g with software 2.0.2 installed. I was wondering two things right now: 1) if I jailbreak my phone does that mean I no longer update it through iTunes? 2) if I jailbreak my phone will I lose all of my contacts and programs that I'm already payed for and download through iTunes?

Welcome. SEARCH in the future. You can update through iTunes, but it breaks the jailbreak and relocks the iPhone. You can retain your contacts, info, and such.

If you return to Apple with an issue and you do not restore the iPhone (get rid of the jailbrokenness) your warrantee is void and they refuse you service.

Jailbreak

My apologies, but I did search and didn't see anything about contacts. I thought that when you get to the final stage of the jailbreak you are to select "setup as new phone" so wouldn't that wipe all your info out?

Yer but if you want you just restore as backup and u will get all ur sms's back if u set up as new phone then all ur contacts should sync from ur address book

No matter what u do all ur apps will go back onto your phone
