I jailbroke and am trying to go back but have run into all types of issues and really regret ever jailbreaking

To go back I chose restore and it gave me an error stating "software was corrupt during download"

So i downloaded the 5.1.1 factory IPSW and went to restore manually (shift+click restore) and it gave me an error 14 halfway through.

Ive tried everything (different computers, different internet connection, closing all software, different usb cable, everything) and I've gotten error code 14, 16, 20, and 3194

I've tried reading the support articles but they tell me nothing.

I've tried booting into DFU and trying to restore automatically and manually and nothing..

Pretty much my phone is a brick right now

Can anyone help? :(

1) Jailbreaks aren't a problem, it's the user who makes them.

2) Your phone is not bricked.

3) Go to settings->General->Reset->Erase All Content and Settings

4) Plug back to itunes and to a restore, Problem solved.

5) Thank me.

I have no OS.. the only screen I get is the recovery (itunes logo and usb cord) screen

Oh okay, Then if I remember right You can do DFU by holding power+home for 10 seconds, release power continue holding home till iTunes recognizes it in recovery mode.
Then do a restore.

I've done all of this. DFU mode doesnt do anything for me except give me error 14.

I've tried older IPSW's, I've tried DFU mode and recovery mode, I've tried everything. im stuck

error code 14 fix
1. Update to the latest version of iTunes
2. Verify that your operating system is up to date
3. Disconnect other USB devices
4. Check security settings
5. Restart
6:Check the USB connection and try other ports if not check the cord or try a different cord

Best bet is to try Solution 6 first.

Everyone knows that you DON'T erase all content and settings if you're jailbroken.

I'm 99% sure I did it to my iphone 4S once and It got rid of everything even my jailbreak while running absinthe.

I am sure that did not happen. It's been jailbreaking since iPhone 3G (iOS 3) and have seen what happen when you erase all settings and contents.

the problem is the 1%, you can't erase all settings when jailbroken, it will go into a boot loop…sigh….

@OP

You said you where in DFU-mode? Make sure it was, in DFU the phone screen is blank and itunes says it found a phone in recvoery mode (which it isn't; recovery mode the phone screen shows the connect to itunes screen).

Now try again with shift-restore in itunes, you may want to try a different computer as well.

BTW why do you want to go back to stock?

Have you looked into using tiny umbrella to help kick it out of the loop ?

Yes i've tried tinyUmbrella. The screen was blank so I know I was in DFU mode. I have also tried the (shift+Click Restore) optiopn too. I get nothing.

I'm running into two seperate problems

If I download a 5.1.1 (or other version for that matter) factory IPSW and do a shift+restore it extracts the software properly and then halfway through the actualy restore it gives me an error 14

If I just click restore and let itunes download the appropriate software it tells me the "The Software for iphone "iphone" was corrupted during download, Please try again later"

I think im SOL! I have no OS at this point

try this http://www.maheshkukreja.com/how-to-fix-error-14-in-itunes-while-upgrading-to-ios-5 and this is why I advocate people do some research before jailbreaking. when I started I spent several nights researching the basics pro's and cons etc.. and yes everybody else is correct 1st rule of jailbreaking is never erase all content on a jailbroken phone. A little time on Google or asking 1st would have saved you allot of grief. ;)

Silly question but are you 100% sure you downloaded the correct firmware? Also, where did you download the file from? I had a similar problem. When I found the download link, I right clicked and chose save as. The file was huge. About 650mb or something like that. But I couldnt restore to save my life. So I decided to download the firmware again and this time I did not right click save as. I just clicked on it normally, then I got a popup asking where I want to save the file. This time the file was about 1gb and it was the correct file.

If I were you I'd double check to make sure you are saving the correct firmware and that it's about 900mb-1gb in size. Then make absolute certain you are in DFU (device firmware upgrade) mode. Shift click restore and select the new, correct firmware. iTunes will take care of the rest and restore your device. Choose set up as new. When it's done, resync all your contacts etc back to your phone.

Here's a link from iClarified for the 4S 5.1.1 firmware...

Good luck!
