Hello,

I got my first iPhone 2g and it was upgraded to 3.1.2 by iTunes before I knew what that meant...

I was able to jailbreak it with blackra1n, but how do I now unlock it?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks for the tip. Do I need to downgrade from 3.1.2 before using ultrasn0w? It says you must be upgraded to 3.0, should I downgrade to that version?

Also, do you have any insight on bootneuter? I read that is a permanent unlock...

Thanks!

US works fine on your phone.

Don't worry about permanent unlocks. Apple isn't changing your baseband so assuming there is a jailbreak available for whatever OS is released you can unlock it.

OK, great! Good info.

To make sure I understand, if I am jailbroken, it doesn't matter what OS iPhone has installed - ultrasn0w will deal with the unlock without the need to go back to the 3.0 version.

I have been sifting through a sea of information about this stuff, as a new user it is hard to keep it all straight. I had a 3g - it was easy to unlock and jailbreak...2g hasn't had much information about 3.1.2 (probably because ultrasn0w just works).

I was able to get to and install ultrasn0w, but when I put in the new SIM card from t-mobile it says different SIM Card detected and to conect to iTunes...is that normal?

C'mon guys, ultrasn0w is the 3G unlock. The OP says clearly he has a 2G.

As you are on 3.1.2, you have these options:
- use pwnage tool on a Mac to create custom firmware
- find and download a custom ipsw if you don't have Mac access
- downgrade the phone to 3.0 and unlock it with RedSn0w

Restore your iphone using custom firmware. You haven't done anything that can't be fixed.

I am not too familiar with that, where do I find custom firmware? What do I search for to find it?

Thanks for your help!
