jailbroken 3gs but not unlocked question

I have a jailbroken 3gs that I restored with the latest firmware via iTunes. I have heard that because I restored the phone via iTunes that I cannot unlock the device through blackra1n. is this correct? also, if it is could I get a prepaid AT&T gophone sim card and use it?

you shouldnt have a problem unlocking. blacksn0w should do it if its updated to latest version.
