So, I've just bought an AppleTV 2nd gen and I like it so far (online radio is the best - just to have Groove Salad on my TV was worth it!)

I've jailbroken it, too. Installed XBMC but haven't had a chance to try it. Any other apps worth checking out for the AppleTV? I've ought RemoteHD and that's a bit of a help with the keyboard remote, but overall the app selection has disappointed (no VNC client, for example).

The nitoTV interface is pretty darn clunky as well, it's hard to discover apps, and I'm sure it lists iPhone apps on search (yeah, made me scratch my head too).

So, any apps?

Also, is it me or is it a slap in the face that an AppleTV on the UK iTunes store can't rent TV shows? And iTunes U would be great on this device.

The possibility of apps (of which there aren't many). XBMC is also useful for streaming non-iTunes movies over the network, but I have yet to try it.

XBMC itself is the only reason my ATV'S are jailbroken. XBMC has many great add-ons. Just a few that I use regularly: Pandora, Grooveshark, Crackle, Fastpasstv, Icefilms, Navi-x. Just do a search for XBMC & add-ons or check out the forums over at XBMC.org. Some add-ons are easier to install and run better than others but it's all improving by the day.

I also use XBMC play all of my movies and TV shows. I leave the music to iTunes but other than that, my ATV is always in XBMC.

If you don't like the XBMC interface, check out PLEX. There is a discussion here comparing the two.
