Jailbroken Apps: How do you update apps to newly released versions?

Hi, I own a jailbroken iPhone 3G S 32 gig with the latest version (3.1.3 I believe). When you download apps from appulous, does the appstore give you updates for apps or do you have to download a newer version of the app in appulous? I'm thinking I have to download the newer version from appulous, but I just want a clarification.
