iPhone Jailbroken, hardware issues, Apple Support. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

So, I JB my iPhone 4 around 9 months ago. About 2 months after, I frequently lost service and a message would pop up and tell me that I couldn't make or receive texts or calls until I plugged my phone into iTunes and restored it. The first time it happened, I restored it as a new phone because I couldn't remember my back up password. After that, I created a new one.. Since then, I've had to restore my phone 4-5 times and I used the backup I created AFTER my restoration. Yesterday, it happened again- except this time, when I went to finish the restoration process- it says "An unknown error has occured. Error (-1)". Today, I took it to Verizon (because the nearest Apple Store is 2+ hours away), they tried restoring it and still the same error popped up. So I called Apple Support, stayed on the phone with them from 11-3:30, tried 3 different computer and eventually tried to restore it over 20 times.. My warranty was up, so I had to pay $150 for a replacement. I got the e-mail receipt and it says if I violated terms and conditions, I will be charged an additional-non refundable $501.

My question is- the phone obviously has a hardware/baseband error- was it caused from the jailbreak, even though restored? And will Apple detect it if phone has been restored multiple times within the last 9 months??

someone please help. because my mom used her credit card and I need to go hide for a few years if they are going to detect it.

Since you already exchanged it, what do you expect us to do at this point.

If you are asking because you have to send in the phone, does it boot up ?
If not, they will not be able to boot it either, so you should be good.

If it does not have a hardware failure, it can be restored.
Use either Redsn0w or TinyUmbrella to kick it out of recovery.
Restore it to 5.1.1 or 6.0, choose set up as new, do not restore to backup.

Perhaps you should avoid manipulating your phone until you can pay the tab yourself.

Although I appreciate your response, the rest was not necessary. I do not expect anyone to do anything. This was for preparation. Apple failed to tell me this. The transaction was made at 3, but I didn't receive the e-mail containing the detailed receipt until 1:45am.

Yes, I am asking because I must send it to Apple when i receive the replacement. No, the phone is stuck in "recovery mode". It will flash occasionally and the apple logo appears briefly. I'm not tech savy nor am I interested in it, so I have no clue where to start on Redsn0w or TU.

But, perhaps you should stick to answer the questions in the forums, because you're in no position to give me advice. I'm 21 years old, with a 3 month old, and two months into chemo. 9 months ago, "paying the tab" was not an issue for me.

You are attempting to downgrade an iPhone from iOS 5 to iOS 4.x. To resolve, use either custom firmware created by PwnageTool/sn0wbreeze or use notcom's FixRecovery utility available on his site.
On an iPhone 4 downgrading from iOS 5, use the option in TinyUmbrella to allow a baseband "upgrade" to bypass the error and go back to basband 4.10.1.
Unable to downgrade. Try changing the USB port (the back one of chassis is better) and restart computer.
The installed version of iTunes may also be too old. Update iTunes.

I'd go to iClrified.com and browse their tutorials there. While the responses here are good and accurate, because of the nature of that site, you'll get more detail and pics on how to get this done in the tutorials there.

Apple does not spend time checking the baseband out. They will open the box check the box and but it in line to be refurbished.. Especially if there are hardware issues while booting up

Iclarified is about as easy as it comes to fallow you can go on YouTube as well there are a ton of video's tutorials. Personally I still don't get what you are trying to do or what all your issues are while I understand Iclarified 100% this is why I say people shoud learn about jailbreaking and unlocking 1st .

I was definitely in panic mode when I wrote this forum. Ultimately, my issue is: Is Apple going to detect a jailbreak after the phone has been restored over 5 times in the past 9 months? It was restored as new iphone once. My phone has not been jailbroken in over 7 months.
I totally forgot about jailbreaking it because I didn't like it and I didn't use it.

After I jailbroke, shortly after, my phone needed 'restoring' very frequently. Even after 'restoring iphone as new"- the problem still persisted. It wasn't until AFTER I spoke with Apple Support for 4 hours AND purchased the out-of-warranty replacement phone and $600 worth of charges to my moms credit card- did I think about the "jailbreak" possibly being the cause of my issue. So, second question. -After a total restoration as a new iphone, can a jailbreak still cause issues?

While on the phone with Apple Support, they told me that water damage would void everything, and my mom would be charged the additional nonrefundable $501. The current $501 charge is a hold on her account until I send my iPhone back. When I got the receipt as an email, it also stated that a software issue due to third party applications would also void everything, and we would be charged. So, I'm way more concerned with Apple detecting the jailbreak and having to pay a total of $700 for a stupid careless mistake.

I did what I could, and nothing worked to get the phone to come back on. It's still currently in recovery mode. my new phone came in the mail today, I'm debating on whether or not to send the old phone back in or try more to restore it.

Just JB, or did you mess with unlocking back then? JB shouldn't be a problem. Unlocking can make a mess, though.

If it's just JB, they can restore and just earned $150 from you for nothing.

Well honestly lol I don't know what it means to be "unlocked" so I don't think I did that.. Is there any way I can look up when the last time I restored my phone as "new iPhone"?

If you restored the firmware and setup as new, than they won't find any trace, unless you messed with the baseband as well.

So if you turned in like that not jailbroken, you'll be fine.

If you didn't mess with unlocking or the baseband, you're fine. Then it probably was a hardware problem, and all is well. I mean, other than costing you some cash.
