Hey guys, I'm new here so I really hope you guys can help me out. I'm not good with these kind of stuff so I came here to ask some questions.

I have an iPhone 3GS that's jailbroken to BB 6.15.000 with iOS 5, and I wanted to restore it back to factory settings. I learned that you can't restore the iPhone to factory settings with a BB 6.15.00, but also learned that I can downgrade it to a lower BB according to this tutorial of EverythingApplePro (
), but his tutorial didn't tell me if I can put it back to factory settings. It only told me that his tutorial can only teach me how to downgrade my BB but still leave it jailbroken. So I was wondering if I can restore it to factory settings once I followed his tutorial, or do I need to do something else in order to get it back to factory settings. If I'm looking at a wrong tutorial, I hope you guys can lead me to a better one.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply, but I want to restore it to factory settings since I got this iPhone back. I originally didn't jailbreak it. I gave it to someone else, and when I got it back, it's already jailbroken with their things in it and I want to reset it to start from scratch again. Or is it the same thing? Can I upgrade to future iOSs if I do this? Thanks!

You can wipe the iPhone on the phone itself, Settings/General/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings, if that is what you want.

Be careful what you tell people, a jailbroken phone CANNOT do erase all settings, it will go in a loop!

The only way to start clean is a restore, which for the 3GS is possible to any firmware with blobs.

Make sure you make a NO_BB custom firmware, otherwise you might loose the 06.15.00 BB and the unlock.

Good to know, sorry about that, wasn't aware of that.

TriJetHero, I'm not really familiar with the NO_BB custom firmware things. Can you lead me to a tutorial on how to do this?

edit: and by doing this, I restore it to factory settings and unjailbreak it, right? :D

I tried the tutorial above out but when I try restore it from itunes, I get an error 3194. I followed a tutorial to add 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com on the end of hosts to block iTunes, but get an error 1600 instead. Can anyone help me out with what I did?

For 4+ firmware the host needs to point to Cydia

For 5+ firmware it needs to point to apple

Type in gs.apple.com in your browser, and see where it akes you, cydia or appl

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I got "This page is just a placeholder...Copyright 2004-2010 Apple Inc." So this means I have Apple, right? Then what do I do next?

TriJetHero, everything was good for around 12 hours. It seems that I needed to click 'No' when asked if it was a new or old model. I was able to see the apple logo with a loading bar and the pineapple logo too. After that, I thought I did something wrong since it still didn't restore. I then tried restoring it again with my custom restores, but get errors instead. Turns out I missed a part about the boot tethered part, but I didn't do the jailbreak part. It worked fine, restored it to scratch and decided to upgrade it to iOS 6. My phone was plugged the whole time overnight while downloading iOS 6, but didn't get to upgrade it since I keep on problems with my connection. The next morning, I plugged out my phone (still working) but after around 20 minutes, it was stuck in a black screen and turning it on doesn't do anything. I plugged it back in the afternoon and tried using 'just boot' on redsnow. The white screen showed up and found a way on putting it back to DFU (the black screen, right?) and that's where I am right now.

I really have no idea what to do right now and I'm really starting to feel like I already owe a lot on TriJetHero with all the help he gave me. So if guys can also help me, I would really appreciate that :D

Best is to download the IPSW file and than ALT-restore(mac) or SHIFT-restore with in itunes, that way you avoid connection problems.

Try restoring it in DFU mode to iOS 6 and than jailbreak with the latest redsn0w

Aryt, I downloaded the 6.0 ipsw. After getting lots of error 3194 and 1600, I finally got it to go past the errors by doing a lot of tutorials (even though I honestly don't know which tutorial I used). Problem is, after passing 3194 and 1600, my phone didn't show the apple logo and instead showed a white screen. The white screen didn't appear after any drops but appeared only on the post above and now, I get an error 1618 after showing the white screen then blacking out again. What did I do wrong? :/

edit: and TU doesn't work for me since I don't think it recognizes my phone because 2 of the advanced options are greyed out

Tried it again and got past all the errors. Still stuck in the white screen though. And iTunes is still 'waiting for iPhone'. Don't know if the last error would still appear. Any thoughts guys? :(

error 1618 is an itunes error, reinstall the latest itunes, appears to be a Windows 8 problem

Type in gs.apple.com in your computer browser, if it takes you to apple your host file is ook and you won't get the 3194 or 1600 errors.

The 2 options being greyout don't mean taht TU is not working, look in the main page, it should have the phones information.

TriJetHero, I got past the errors now. Should I just wait and see if iTunes will detect my iPhone with the white screen?

just try a hard reset first, hold home and power for 10 seconds.

You can't restore in the white screen

Yup, I did put it on hard reset after seeing the white screen and before restoring. The apple logo didn't appear though. I got past the errors but got stuck on 'waiting for iPhone' with the white screen.

And it seems like most of the problems with the white screen was because it was dropped, but I didn't drop my iPhone for the past 2 weeks before restoring. I did drop it around 4-5 weeks before trying to restore, but I never received a problem with the iPhone after dropping so I'm guessing the drop was not the causeon the white screen.
