Hi,

I have just finished to unlock a iPhone 5 (running iOS 6.1)?

Question: How do I network unlock? Which Cydia (or other package) do I need to install.

I am on the O2 UK network… at the moment and want to use a Vodafone SIM.

There is no software unlock. Jailbreak and Unlock are 2 fundamentally different things.

Sorry, but you can't unlock your phone, there has not been a software unlock for over 2 years. So you likely never will either.

At this point your best bet is calling up your carrier and seeing if they will unlock it. I think all the ebay unlocks got shut down, so unless those come back sometime you're out of luck.

So I just call bell Canada and say "can you guys please unlock my iPhone?"

What's a good excuse?

I don't know what Bell's policy is or if they will even do it, but you can always try saying you're going overseas and want to use a local sim.

Theres a form on o2's website you fill in, costs 15 quid or if your a pay monthly customer its free.

This service is not for iPhone 5 !!!

I have filled this form every 2 weeks and each time I get a respond from O2 that this service is only available for iPhone 4S or lower.

You normally have to wait 6 to 9 months on O2 before you can unlock the iPhone.

Or that has been the case with the 4 and 4s anyway

I am aware of these timelines… hence my reason for posting on there forum.

Is there anyway to unlock iPhone 5 once the iPhone is jailbroken?

I purchase my iphones unlocked directly from apple. Sounds like you people need to do some research before purchasing phones in the future. You knew when you bought that phone that it wouldn't work with your carrier out of the box. This isn't news anymore that cell phones are locked.

You found this forum. Why did you wait until after the purchase to ask??????

Nope, there are no software unlocks available for the iPhone 5. As a frame of reference to any hope you might have of one, there has not even been an iPhone 4s software unlock, the last software unlock released was approx. 2+ years ago for the iphone 4 launch. So I wouldn't hold my breath....

Just to inform you: "I was fully aware of what I was buying. In fact, I have every single Apple iPhone since 3G, have owned 2 Macs, 2 MacBook pros, 1 MacBook Air… and develop iOS & OSX Applications". I also have each of my iPhones unlocked (except 4S and 5)…. so the question has nothing to do with lack of research.

I think "instead of assuming" that "you people" did not do research before purchasing our phones or not knowing that such phones would not work out of the box with a different carrier…

… we 'dumb' folks would rather appreciate if you instead posted something that would help other forum members.

i own a bunch of **** too. but this thread clearly indicates you had no clue about software unlocks and clearly didn't do any research before the fact.

Thank you…

Short & Sweet :)

there is no software unlock that can be done via a jailbreak like on older phones...I'm not sure if the gevey sims have been updated/released for iphone 5 but look into those.

You can also try and find somebody online that will do an IMEI unlock for a fee. There are a number of places that do this in the US for ATT but you would need to find somebody that will support O2 specifically. It's not dependent on firmware so restoring wont erase the unlock.
